just picked up a .358 blr n some dies. I have some 225gr tsx and some 250gr speers and h4895 and RL15 that i reload for .35 whelen with.
I am planning on picking up some 200 gr hornady and maybe some 200gr accubonds and tsx. I bought the rifle with elk in mind. any info or loads anyone has would be appreciated. I've read a few older threads on here about .358 loads.

I've ran the 225 TSX to around 2400 fps in my BLR. I can't remember which powder off the top of my head. I've done well with the Hornady and TAC. IMR 4064 shoots well well with most of the 200's but you won't get the velocity you do with TAC.

Go with 51 or 52 grs of TAC pushing the 200 gr TTSX. This in Win 308 brass and WLRM primers.

sounds like TAC is the way to go. What kind of COAL are we talking on the 200 gr ttsx and 225 gr tsx? 2.78? that's a fine warthog Ed.

I haven't ran the 200 TTSX, when I got the 225 TSX, they were the lightest available at the time. Eventually I'll get some 200's.

With the 200 grain Hornadys I have had good luck with 49 grains of IMR-3031 for about 2,660 and 52 grains of TAC at about 2,610. Both using WW brass. IMR loads use WLR and TAC loads use Fed 215s.

The rifle in question is a Ruger Hawkeye with a 22 inch barrel. Both shout around 1.5 inches in my rifle.

No experience with either load on elk. Deer do not like them.

I only used Speer 250 Spitzers and 48 grains of Hodgdon Blc2 for elk. Although the load only cronos 2353 fps, it is very deadly on elk with complete penetration and lots of blood if it should need tracking. Mine didn't and was always down within 15 or 20 yards.

Joe, what charge and coal? That sounds bout like the perfect 250 gr .358 win load

Thanks joe. I love the speers. Load them in my .35 whelen

Pal of mine used the 200 hornady spire points on 6-8 moose over the years. He even killed a monstrous bodied 68" bull one year. The big one was the only one he ever recovered any bullets from, found two under the hide on the off side.
IIRC he pushed them around 2550fps from a 22" barreled Sako bolt gun.

I loaded some 200 gr horndady spire points with h4895. have not shot them yet but load data says theyll be about 2400 fps. nothing zippy but just first round of reloading
