Hi all...went to check Alliant website for some .308 loads and saw their new powder announced...Reloder 16..check it out...a hair faster than the 4350's and of course, temp
insensitive and a de-coppering agent....
Pete
May have to try RL-16 in a .270 Winchester.
Yep--should be about perfect for a lot of uses.
I have yet to see it on a shelf. Anyone playing with it yet?
Bought some on Friday. I loaded it under 180 NPT, 180 Horn IL, 180 NAB in my 30-06. I hope to shoot them next week.
I called Alliant last week and learned a few things. First, Re 16, Re 23, and I believe AR Comp are there only powders with chemistry that is designed to increase temperature stability. Interestingly, Re 26 has temp insensitivity on its bottle but only acts that way - it does not have their TZ technology to make it chemically developed for temp insensitivity. As much as I love the Hodgdon Extreme line, I'm glad we have more choices.
Kinda confusing w/ RL 15,16 and 17 being so close together as far as burning rate. Looks like just a change in gun or bullet wt. would mess a guy's load up. powdr

Yes a change in gun or bullet wt. could mess a guy's load up.
It seems powder companies have a hard time keeping old favorites in stock, but they are able to introduce new powders??
Is that a ploy to get us testing and experimenting with a new power?
I realize powers(burn rates) can change over decades, but maybe they'd rather we not keep loading the same loads with known powders?
I have no problem trying RL16 when i cannot procure H4350.
ordered some today.
I think this stuff is pixie dust...and that bwinters was hallucinating when he found some. My excitement to try it is all but gone.
should be great in 6.5 Creedmoor, 7-08, light .30-06, .338 WM and likely .338-06 and 9.3x62 heavy bullets.
I bought another pound on Weds...........
My 06 hates it <G>
Now if I could get more Re26, I'd be set.
I've finally got some RL16 on the way. BTW, its at powder valley. They have some good prices and they're fair with the shipping charges.
