Bought 400 7mm 150 grain bullets from Midway. They refer to them as Repackaged Reloading Components. No markings as to what brand and Midway would not tell me when I called. They look like the 30 cal. Hornadys SP that I have but not sure. Anyone know what they are??

Hornady's are 154 grain. Let us know what these actually weigh. Most Midway 2nds (blems) are Hornady.

My experience is that the Midway blems, seem usually to be Hornadys, are true seconds vs the nosler blems which seem to be as close to firsts as you can get.

Graf blems are usually Sierras but I can't comment from experience on the quality.

By my scales they are 150's, weighed several. Now what??

In my experience most blemished components are manufacturer rejects solely due to visual appearance. I worked in the gunsmithing shop of a major firearm manufacturer, nearly all the ammo we used for test firing and accuracy was blemished ammo from major manufacturers. Never experienced any problems with it and over the years I fired several thousand rounds of centerfire rifle and shotgun ammo. I have purchased Midway 240gr. .44 bullets in bulk packs to load for my .44 Magnum and have always been satisfied with these.

If they are Hornady Spire Points, sectioning a bullet would reveal the Interlock ring. There are several ways to do this, but the easiest I've found is to clamp the bullet sideways in a sturdy vise, then use a file to cut the bullet down until the core is revealed. If they're Interlocks, the ring will be obvious.

Ok, I followed Mule Deer's instructions and unless the cannelure acts as the interlock. These are not Hornady Interlocks. A very small indention into the lead portion of the core which was made by the cannelure is the only ring in the core.

The interlock is a little bit below the cannalure it is not that obvious in real life

I thought they looked like Winchester Power Point 150's.

A couple of months ago I ordered a bunch of 270, 130gr Ballistic tips from Midway. As I was completing the order I was given the option of buying a box of .270 130gr Poly Tip Spitzer BT "Repackaged Reloading Components" for a greatly reduced price. No manufacturer was listed but I thought for that price, I'll try a box.

When they arrived they appeared to be SST's however I discovered that only half of the box had red tips and the other half were brown tipped. Other than the color of the tips they appear to be all the same. Not complaining, just thought that was a little odd.

Bought 200 150 gr .277 red tipped spitzers from Midway. Probably Hornady as who else makes a red tipped 150 gr .277 with a cannalure? Odd that the cannalure was way up the bullet. They shot okay, not as good as TXSs but fine for banging away.

I'd never use any blems, seconds or bulk packed bullets on a hunt .... too much as stake to "save money".

When you're talking about repackaged and/or seconds like this, tips can be any color, from pretty much any manufacturer, just depends what they order or have extra stock in.

The Midway "Dogtown" varmint bullets are made by Nosler, I saw them on a tour of Nosler's facility, but of course Midway, Midsouth, and other repackagers can source bullets from whoever is most profitable at the time. The Nosler rep on the tour said they will often use different tip colors for repackagers like Midway, and that they could buy tips in any color they want. (I tried to buy some tips from them for a cast bullet project but they wouldn't sell them.)

I bought a brick of Midsouth "Varmint Nightmare" bullets a while back that are 50gr V-Max with a black tip; kinda different and wish I could get more.

Fotis, After seeing your pics, I took a second look at the bullet & did see the interlock ring, so I have to assume they are Hornady Interlocks. Now to see if I can get them to shoot in wife's 7x57 AI.

I have reloaded some Midway blem handgun bullets that were Hornady 90gr XTPs. Found at least one with an incompletely formed nose/hollow point. Not visually obvious at first, but showed up clearly in OAL.

On that basis, count on extra visual inspection of each bullet, maybe weigh them all, etc. I'd be OK using them on varmints, load development and for practice. For a rifle match or for game where each round fired can be very expensive (trophy/tag fees), I'd buy "firsts".

I just bought a pile of them too. Can't beat .12/bullet. Anybody got a pet load for a 280 with these?

I bought some of those a couple of years ago. Looked exactly like Win Powerpoints, didn't work on my gun with the powder I was using then.
Seem to be PP again.
