I'm going to be loading this caliber on the side. The rifle is a LH Sako AV w/22" barrel. The previous owner didn't shoot it much, but put a brake on it (Ought to be good for the bench).
Bullets on hand
235gr Woodleigh
250gr Sierra
270gr Hornandy SP
I spent the last couple of days researching and RL-15 and IMR 4064 (which I have plenty of) seems to be workable with those range of bullets.
Any other suggestions?
Pretty hard to beat RL15 and H4350 for my money.
If I wanted to play with something more contemporary it would probably be RL17.
But what's the point? The 250 Sierra and RL15 is a winning combo. Been shooting it for years.
Ramshot Big Game is workable, too. When you can find it. RL15 is more available and hard to beat, though.
Shooting 270's in my current two H&H's as well as a previous one has settled me on RL-15.
Damn that's a big chunk of brass. The old lady was like I a'int shooting that.
I'm using hybrid 100v for light loads and H4350 for max loads with 270 & 300 grain bullets
What are you all zeroing the iron sights at? I was figuring dead on 50 meters with the 270 grain bullet.
One of my 375s.
One of my loads.
I've always used RL-15 with 270 and 300 grain bullets in my 375 H&H Magnums. With either bullet, I sight mine in at 100 yards.
I bet that is the Bell of the Ball at the range. Kudos.
Paul,
It's really just a big 30-06. With those bullets you should be able to get about 2800fps or a bit more so sight it in for 2 1/2 or 3 inches high at 100 and go kill stuff.
And I've played with a lot of powders with the 375H&H and it is easy to load for but I always come back to RL15.
I get better velocities with IMR-4350 than with RL15 when used with 270 or 300gr bullets. The RL15 is accurate, just not as fast.
I've found IMR-4064 to give good velocities and accuracy behind 250gr bullets. With 235gr, I like IMR-4895 because I don't load them max.
Varget doesn't suck in this Ruger No. 1 (RL15 does about the same):
Thanks I have some cans of Varget too.
FWIW, When I stared loading 270 gr TSX's in mine, I used RL 15 because of all the good reports I saw for that combination. When I saw the results, I never saw any reason to look further.
I use Varget exclusively.
All my load work up began and ended with R15. Varget and R17 would be interesting too. The old H&H can be surprisingly accurate at least mine is the big limitation is the shooter.
All dressed up and now where to go.

Can't argue with that. Nice.
Varget has been very accurate in a number of Kimber Talkeetnas and Winchester Model 70's. Soon I will be testing it with a Browning X Bolt Stalker.
But I believe the H&H is a friendly cartridge to load for in a variety of powders.

Me too. Pick your bullet, pick your powder and you are usually G2G.
Always loved the 375's. My favorite is the 378 Bee!
260 Accubond 106 gr H4350 at 3155 fps
Nice gun.
Fotis, you should go to work for Ed Weatherby; you could be the new poster boy for the Bee line...

Or Hodgdon with the amount of powder you burn
