I am kicking around the idea of getting a 26 Nosler and am looking to run a heavy bullet, so enter the Woodleigh Weldcore 160 grain PSP bullet.

I know these bullets are designed for big and dangerous game, so my question is how will they perform on white tail deer and antelope? My thought is it could blow right through an antelope and it will just run away.

Any experience or feedback would be appreciated.

I am looking at running them right at 3000 FPS at the muzzle.

I am very fond of Woodleigh Weldcore bullets and have hunted with them in Africa. They were loaded by Superior Ammunition and tuned to my specific rifle, a custom .338 Winchester. They shot under one MOA and, according to Larry (who then owned Superior), MV averaged 2,825 fps out of my rifle with a 225 grain protected point bullet.

Shot Impala, Waterbuck, Gemsbok, Warthog, Zebra, Eland and Kudu with them and they performed just fine when I did my part. No complaints. They have a good reputation as a cat bullet as well, though I killed my Leopard with a Partition and it was DRT. For Lion, I used a 400 grain Swift A Frame out of a .416 Rigby and it was way too much bullet. No expansion and the followup was not pleasant. Should have used a .375 with a Partition, Weldcore or Corelokt.

I have fired Woodleigh softs and solids as loaded by Norma out of my .470 NE. While I have never shot anything with a Woodleigh solid, I did shoot a 355 lb. boar with a 500 grain soft. We recovered one bullet which we found on the ground when we skinned the pig and it mushroomed appropriately and held together perfectly.

Go to the Woodleigh website. Each bullet has a range of recommended impact velocities. For best performance, you want to be within that range.

While I am not a deer hunter, based on my African experience with similar sized ungulates, you would do just as well with a Nosler Partition, Nosler Accubond, Federal Fusion or even a good ole Remington Corelokt on deer size game.
