I loaded up 100 117 GR SST last night at 57 gr and 4/1000's off the lands in virgin ppu brass with CCI 250 primers.

This is for my grand daughter's 24 inch Ruger mk II.

My son shot a group with it later on, and said it printed about six inches.

Just curious of other's results.
I shot the same bullet -winchester brass bullet -15K off lands , loaded 5 each 57gr. too 58.5 gr. .58.5 is max load in Hodgdon site -no pressure signs .
H-1000 just wasn't in the running against H-4831sc .
My barrel loves H-4831sc in heavies and light bullets -but not with 100gr. bullets.
People speak highly of Retumbo so I gave the H-1000 a try -.
Thanks,

H4831 has been the go to powder in this application since before the short cut version was available.

I used H4831 and H4831sc with great seccess in two previous 25-06 rifles.

H1000 has worked very well for me in the 264 and the 7mm STW. I thought it might be a worth while experiment to try it in the 25-06 with heavy bullets.

If I got big crazy groups like your son did I'd give .

Three powders all Hodgdon have been great in my 25-06 -Varget w/75gr. v max , I read to just seat the bullet .257 into the case and BAM -tiny groups 49.7 grains max load right out of the Lee book.
H-4350 for 100 grain NBT's , H-4831sc for 110 accubond/117 sst.
I have the gun in my safe. Gotta put a new top on my bench this week. (Thinking TREX 2x6 planks) And give the rifle a good going over.

Son has a bit of a flinch problem fron twenty years ago, when he was a kid and snuck into the hot 300 mag loads. But he came in and snagged the 264, and put three into the black with it.

So the 25-06 is suspect. I will check it out and see how it shoots for me. I don't have Varget. But I do have 4350, H4831, Magnum (slower than H1000), and Hybrid 100 V.

I may be pulling a bunch of those SST's. Won't be the first time that has happened.
117gr Sierra BT's and IMR4350 have worked in several 25/06's for me.

Sierra's "accuracy load" is 49 grains. If there is not a problem with the gun/scope, I'd bet something close to that load would shoot pretty well.
For years I shot one of my 25-06's with a load of IMR4831 and 120 Speers. After a couple of shots didn't perform the way I wanted I started searching for another. Tried the 117's and ran through I4831, I4350, H4350, 7828, and H1000. No luck with any of those. Found a decent load with RL-19 but speed was off (2800 fps) and when summer came, along came the pressure signs. Tried them with 7977 and groups were decent (1") with velocity around 3000-3050.
Moved on to the 110 AB and the 7977 and found what worked for my rifles.
My go to powder for the 25.06 is RL22 especially with bullets in the 110-120gr range. I've owned several 25.06 rifles and they all loved the RL22 with the heavier bullets. I've also had good results with Retumbo, imr7828 and RL25. I've personally never tried the H1000.
RL19 for 100's and below has always been my standby.
RL22 if I want to use a heavier bullet.
