Have been using the Hornady 220RN in the 30-06 been wanting something a little flatter shooting. Tried out the Hornady ELD-X bullets in 212 and 220gr, very accurate. Curious what others experience has been on game. Also have always used IMR 4350 in the past but wanted to up the velocity a bit. Tried superperformance and it wasn't very accurate in two mod 70's, anyone have a suggestion for powder/load that will give more velocity with safe pressure levels, thanks.
So no one has taken game or reloaded the 212 or 220 ELD-X in 06?
178 only, 58.5 grains of Hunter for about 2850 mv.

No personal experience but did a lot of reading on th various LR style hunting bullets. The Hornady was probably the most debated as to its merit. YMMV, it is the internet after all.
warpig, thanks, looks like I better do some bullet testing.

I had good luck with rl17 or h4831sc with 208 amaxes. The 4350s seem to do best with 150-180g range of bullets. Try h4831sc or RL17 with the 212 eldx.

I haven't tried it yet but plan on giving rl23 and maybe rl26 a go with 212s this summer.

I used to run the 208 amaxes at close to 2700 from a 23" brux chambered with the serengeti reamer. The old 06 does quit well with the heavy high BC bullets. I hope to work up a good 212 eldx load now that the 208 amax has gone away.

Another great heavy high BC bullet is the 215 Berger hybrid target. Ignore the label that says don't use for hunting. I've been shooting them since they came out in my 300 wsm and I've killed 3 mule deer bucks, a 5 point bull elk, and a 15" pronghorn at 550 yards. All 1 shot kills with devastating results.

The question I have is WTF is a buttlet ????
Burlyboy, thanks will try those powders, since Hornady manual didn't list 4350 for the heavy bullets figured it wasn't one of the better choices. It was very accurate with the 220gr RN, but there were some primer pressure signs with it.

Might not be what you're seeking, but I've had great results on game and on targets with the good ol' 200 gr Nosler Partition over H4350. Only a bit over 2600 fps, but very nice shooting. Good groups, easy recoil. Excellent penetration & fast expansion both.

Could likely get another 100 fps or so out of the 30-06 with a different powder, but I was so impressed with the H4350 load, I stayed there.
