I needed to ask if the 75g ELD-M expands on varmints, p. dogs, coyotes, and especially Chucks out of cases like the 22/250, 22 Creed, 22/250 AI.

Thanks in advance

They definitely expand but not quite the explosive results you get with a true varmint bullets such as 50 Vmax and the like.

I have several 22-250AI's all 1-8" twist, have one 1-8"twist 22-250. So far the 75gr ELD-M is a 3" bullet in the 3 guns I have tried it in

75 ELD's shoot sub 1/2" in my 1-7" 22br, 1-7" 22 CM, 1-8" .223, 1-8" .223AI and 1-7".223AI.

It aint the bullet.

I started to buy a Tikka fast twist 22-250 from the guys in Kentucky [shortactionsmoker] a few years back, told a buddy out in western Oklahoma [read, very windy] about the deal, he bought one and shoots 75gr eldm's, been laying crows and coyotes in the grass ever since, says it wrecks em pretty well, even neck shot a couple deer, works on pig head shots too according to him.

16 in the BR, 26 in the Creedmoor and Lever in the 223’s.

That's the plan for the 22 CM build - 75 gr. eldm's at ~3300...

I have a PacNor barrel on a Ruger in 22.250. I originally bought the barrel and had it mounted on a Ruger 223.

I later sold the rifle with the original factory barrel and had it rechambered and put on a 22.250.

the Pac Nor had a one in 7 twist, and was 24 inch Stainless Steel.

75 ELD=M shoot quite well in it, even at 300 to 400 yds distances on targets at our local range.

don't know if the 1 in 7 twist, helps that much over the 1 in 8 twist.

I asked old buddy that across a hunt camp fire, he said 8 twist in his Tikka was fine, iirc he's bootin em out at around 3400 fps with 100v/staball 6.5 or CFE 223, i'd call and ask but he's up in the Dakotas on a pipeline job.

An 8” twist is plenty for that bullet at that muzzle velocity.

I know that it will stabalize, I need to know if it blows up p. dogs and chucks, please.

I would like to hear from those with hands on experience, not second hand. You may have had a hunting partner that shot them.

Thanks in advance.

I know the 75's are accurate, that is not the question. At 350-400 yards, do p. dogs just fall over like they have been shot with a Match King or do they explode? Crawlers?

We shoot 75 amazes, Eldms, etc in 22-250AI s and 22 Creedmoors….. at 3350-3450 FPS depending on barrel length and cartridge/rifle, YES, stuff blows up!

K,
We use Eldms in all of our fast twist 22s. The 22-04 drove them just over 3,000 and made many kills in the 7-800 yard range, it was not violent but certainly not pencil holes either. 22x47 etc gets about 3,400 fps and does have violent results on solid hits at the same ranges. Many kills much further with good results. You will not be disappointed. Dale

Thanks Dale for your input!

Ive used the 75 a max and 75 eldms for years on PD's.Great bullet, still pops em beyond 400 yards with a 1-8, even a 1-9.

Keith,

They work well on gophers out of my 1-8" 223. I'd imagine you would get even more graphic results out of the cartridges you're shooting.
