Developing for a Savage LRPV 9 twist, need 3K fps, should get 240,000 RPM out of it.

Hoping for best downrange stability at 500-700 yards. (or more).

I have 4350, 760/414, 7828, 3031, 2007SSC, RL15.

Info appreciated, that would save me some time.

my 1:9" SAAMI .223rem will stabilize the 75g Amax at 2950fps ... so any reasonable velocity out of your .22-250 will stabilize it just fine.

I use 24.0g of '15 in my .223, with R-P brass and WSR primers - if that helps you at all ...

Info for the 22-250 and this bullet is a little scarce, Hodgdon has nothing, Reloaders nest has 1.

After I hear from some of the folks here I'll assemble a couple test loads.

I ran my 1-8"tw 22-250 with moly'd 75Amax's and R-15. Start low and work up. I worked up to 3300 in my rifle.
FWIW, I ended up looking at Sierra's 80gr load data and worked with that.

The latest Hornady manual lists 3300 with 37.2gr of H4350, 31.5gr is the starting load at 2900. H414 makes 3300 with 38.1gr, while 32.8gr is the starting load at 2900. RL15 does 3200 at 33.3gr with a 2900 starting load weighing 29.7gr. This is with Frontier brass and WLR primers.

JP
I'm at the Hodgdon web site and they have loads for weights up to 70gr. You could extrapolate a little bit and create a load to the 75gr bullet. The 3000 FPS figure should be achievable, and your bullet should be stable.

I have a fast twist 22.250...

I have found the fastest velocity is with the mid range powder burn rates surprisingly...

my preference in my Rifle seems to be 33.3 grains of IMR 4064, AA 4064 and IMR 4895...

my rifle's 24 inch barrel gives me 3350 fps with an 80 grain Match or Amax with charges mentioned from those powders....

of course, work up...

That all helps, and thanks. I have 4 possibilities to start with, and that will get me on the way.

here is my fast twist 22.250.. Ruger Action, ( originally a 243 so it doesn't have that short insert magazine), 24 inch Pac Nor barrel, heavy magnum contour, one in 7 twist.. stainless steel..
aftermarket trigger, Boyd's JRS Stock...

it will easily shoot 5 shots at 100 yds, that look like a single shot hole from a 30/06...

I use 36gr. of H4350 with the 75gr. Amax and 70gr. TSX. Both give roughly 3250-3300 fps and group very well at 100yds. This is a custom rifle with a 8" twist Krieger #3 at 24". It'll push it faster, but 36gr. is accurate.

on a ten year old Thread?

Umm okay, what the helll... its a good subject...

33.3 grains of 4064, or IMR 4895 or RL 15 out on my Ruger, with a 1 in 7 twist...

24 inch barrel gives it around 3350 fps with any one of those three powders with that charge...

I am always looking for different load data, no matter how old...

Speaking of mid range powders, I was looking at the Speer load data sheet on the 7-08. They have IMR 4064 as top performing powder with 130's, above all the wonder powders, in fact beating out everything. And without being compressed. I've seen your posts and know you like 4064.

I know, this is a different round, am using this info to add to the discussion on 4064.

D.F.:

I seem to like stuff that has been around for decades.... its still around and selling because it works...

others like or want whatever is the latest greatest out there... which can be a crap shoot in my book...

to each there own... In the 7/08 and 7 x 57, I still shoot 140 grain Ballistic tips the most...

and my powder of choice is 4064 or IMR 4895...

Reduced loads, 30 grains of 4198 or 33 grains of 3031...

As I am frequently told... I'm stuck in 1960......
