So just wondering, outside of stick, I never ran into anyone who uses moly.
So, reduces velocity, and pressure?
Supposed to reduce fowling after 20-30 shots, but if you clean the bore it takes 20 more to settle Down?
Used it for a couple of years (moly) and gave up on it. Never saw the improvement, and it was a mess to work with. JMO
Never used bore coat, so can't help you there.
I only have one rifle that I shoot moly coated bullets in. It is a Remington Model 700 varmint rifle that was bought used and has a pretty rough bore. If I shoot conventional bullets in it the fouling gets pretty bad after 20 or 30 rounds. (Not much good in a prairie dog town)
On a lark I found that if I shoot moly coated Hornady V-max bullets in it I can shoot 50, 60, or more rounds in it and still have great accuracy. This was proven at the rifle range by shooting multiple groups while testing some other guns, letting the gun cool before each group.
This gun is a 22-250 Remington. I tried moly bullets in a couple of other 22-250 rifles and a .223 Remington but could not see any advantage, but it sure works in that one rifle.
For the most part it seems moly was a fad that has come and gone.
If you aren't already doing moly, I would try the Bore Coat. JB raves about it. I'm thinking if I ever again buy a new rifle in a new caliber, I will try it from the start.
I'm still on moly, it has always worked just fine for me.
It was immediately better than naked bullets in my store-bought cheap rifles, and is now better with Mic McPherson's accidental discovery of the wet-plating method. I tried it and it works much better than dry plating. Darn, do they come out slippery now.
Settling really isn't an issue with me, except after a massive strip clean, which only happens after a zillion rounds. When accuracy goes off, I take a wet, tight brush and Hoppes regular 9, scrub a few passes, then patch her dry and start shooting again, sometimes even before the barrel is cooled off.
One caveat, with CrMo barrels, if you are not going to shoot for a while, wet-patch the barrel with something good and oily before putting the gun away. Moly is hygroscopic.
The other thing is, it is a good idea to store moly ammo with silica packets, even if you wax the bullets.
Moly = waste of time, in my experience.

JB does rave about bore coat, and Im inclined to believe him...though I havent used it myself...my rifles already shoot better than I do...
I've used DBC, it seemed to work well. Kinda pissed me off because I used it on one barrel, and a month later when I wanted to use it on a different rifle, the rest of the bottle had hardened and was unusable.
Two replies in one:
To Ingwe: DBC doesn'tmake rifles shoot more accurately. Instead it prevents fouling, allowing them to shoot as accurately for much longer periods between cleanings. All of my PD rifles can be shot for several hundred rounds between cleanings, and even then they clean very quickly and easily.
To prairie goat: You're supposed to make sure the bottle is tightly capped, then keep it refrigerated between uses. I'm still using the bottle I got a couple of years ago.
I figured that out - unfortunately too late for that bottle. Have a new bottle for future rifles.
Moly is a huge game changer providing you know how to coat the bullets correctly. Like Dave said, tumble them wet. Provides a MUCH superior coating that doesn't wear off like the dry does, no mess whatsoever.
I use it in high velocity 20 cals, 4400fps, and go 200 rounds between cleaning. It works. If you are only gonna shoot 20 rds at at time, don't bother, it's for volume shooting.
I have factory Savage 223AI I picked up, will try UBC in that next season after getting a baseline this year.
I go 200 rounds without cleaning in non-moly coated rifles. Clean burning powder helps a lot.
With DBC I typically go 300-1000 rounds between cleanings before accuracy falls off, depending on the rifle.

On a shooting visit with Charlie Sisk in February, he told me he'd built several benchrest rifles for some other Texans who just shoot against each other for fun. Charlie used Lilja barrels and DBC'd them all. The guys are reporting not cleaning their rifles for 2000 rounds, and are still shooting groups in the .2's.
I don't know why in hell anybody would bother molying every bullet they shoot when putting DBC one time in the bore will do that.
A hearty "harumph" to that.
IME moly won't let me go 2000 rounds without cleaning in any rifle I've ever tried it in...
