hey guys im not sure where to list this but i was looking at a used remington 5r on the rack at the local shop. these guys are usually pretty high on there gun prices. it has the hs stock with the green looking web. it is stainless and in really good shape. guys are asking 950 for it.it is in 223. just wondering if that is a good price or not. i see remington discontinued them so the ones that are new are bringing 1200-1300 on gunbroker. let me know what you think. it sounds like i fun little gun but its alot of cash too.
thanks
Ryan

Looks like retail is $1150. Bud's sells it for $1,118 shipped and I'm thinking you could get a new one for less than that. Wonder if they'd come down from the $950 price?

If they were too expensive to succeed in the new gun market why in the world would they be "worth" more used?

It isn't a matter of "succeding". These barrels are made on the same machinery as military contract barrels, that is why they cost more. Remington made a business decision, for whatever reason, to limit the sale of these rifles.

They "succeed" because everyone in the know, buys one when he sees it.

"Remington made a business decision, for whatever reason, to limit the sale of these rifles. "

It's a virtual certainty a matter of "succeding" in the market. Remington isn't dumb and they would be dumb to just slow the use of any costly barrel making machinery and forgo profits from civilian sales. It's likely the reason behind their "business decision" was to cut their losses on a slow moving product - they do that without emotional attachment. If they could have sold enough of them to us to turn a decent profit they are much more likely to have maintained production so we must assume "those in the know" were insufficent to make them a market sucess; that's another kind of real business decision.

Remington isn't dumb......

Remington Arms is populated by some of the dumbest mofos in the US business world.
