Is this still considered a good measure? I bought it when I started reloading 20 years ago and use it for everything from 223 to Rem 7Mag. It throws ball powders pretty much right on repeatedly. Extruded powder with the exception of IMR 4895 not so good. Is there a measure that will throw extruded powders consistently accurate?

What's your version of inconsistent? That's a damn good one.

Need to use the trickler with IMR 4831 or 4350 to end up within 2 or 3/10ths of a grain up or down for the weight I'm loading. Sometimes I've got to tap on the measure to get the complete charge to drop. Generally when that happens it's far enough off the weight that I dump the charge and throw it again.

43, probably just bridging of the powder and this happens with the old Lyman 55, RCBS Uniflow and the 3BR. I have a 6" drop tube attached to the 3BR and can see the powder bridge. I set mine to drop a tenth or so low and trickle from there. Static electricity can also cause the complete charge to not drop. Cleaning the unit with a dryer sheet will take care of that problem. All the big stick powders will bridge from time to time. I have seen a dropper that is not suppose to have the bridging but don't remember the name of that unit.Rick.

Got a old Hornady deluxe powder measure 25 or so years back, and have no problems with the 4831's or with RL22. Drop and go.

(1) Good as any general purpose for all practical purposes

(2) Consider a Quick Measure and look at folks well known here Ken Howell and others who have said good things about the Quick Measure and will show up on a search

I have 5, 3br Reddings on my bench, I dont think they make a powder measure that will throw stick powder on the nut, even my 2 Harrel Classics wont throw stick powder any better but I didnt get them for stick powder either and there over $300 each

I use the Harrells exclusively and they do a better job of throwing stick powder but still not perfect.

Thanks to all for the info. I'll stay with the #3BR, didn't realize it was that well thought of. When I run out of 4831 & 4350. I'll get something in their burn rates that meters better.

Brainstorm today, cleaned the #3BR drum for the first time since I got it 20 years ago. Followed Redding directions using cheesecloth and alcohol. It's still got some crunch with the extruded powder but overall it meters better and is a lot smoother. Big difference.
