Helping a buddy eliminate the chucks in his pasture with a 22 mag. I have a Burris Fullfield II I may give him but it does not have specs for 22 mag. Any ideas for shots under 100 yds.

I don't understand what you mean by "specs for a .22 mag". Clarify, please?

Within 100 yards, .22 mag shoots flat enough you don't need to compensate for trajectory, just sight in about 80 yards and kill stuff. My favorite .22 mag was a boat paddle Ruger 77/22 wearing a Simmons ".22 magnum" 4x. Once it was sighted in I didn't really see any need for more magnification, just hold for the middle and watch parts fly.

The Burris has dots, hence the specs but none for the mag. My buddy is not a very good shot so I thought I could set him up without guessing. I've not spent time with a 22 mag but sounds like it will be easy to just sight the gun in for him. thanx.

Ok, gotcha. Dots.

Holdover vs not may depend on which load you pick. My last couple .22 mags liked the CCI Maxi Mag +V load best. It's got a 30, maybe 32 grain bullet and gets out at about 2200 fps giving it a trajectory pretty similar to a .30-30. A heavier bullet, slower velocity load will have more arc. Might be worth sitting down and shooting some at paper at 50, 75, and 100 yards and see how the dots line up if you mess with the power ring (assuming it's a variable)

Yep 3-9 but not much of a scope altho fine for chucks.
80 yard sight in sounds about right, but 'twere me, I'd sight it in at 100, then see how high it is at 50.
3x9 is just about perfect otherwise.

I can tell ya that shooting the old 40 grain HP or FMJ, if zeroed at 100 yds, the drop is an inch on the scope adjustment every 25 yds out to 200... which would be 4 inches high...

at 50 yds you are about an inch high,

used this for minute of prairie dog and beer can sized sage rats right out to 200 yds with plenty of success and few misses out of both a Ruger 77/22M and a Marlin 25 MN...

and for a scope I was using a Leupold 4 Power with a Target Dot..

worked fine on prairie dog sized stuff...

I like to sight in for 100 yards with my .22 mag and then print it at 50 and 150 to get an idea of trajectory at those two distances. YOu can range anywhere in between and then figure your hold over (or under) pretty easy.

My 22Mags all wear 4-16 scopes. With those guns chucks - rockchucks - are mostly shot at 100yds or less. The scope gets cranked to 16x a lot of the time. It's not too much power......often there'll be just part of the back visible, or a head sticking up, or an eyeball watching from between rocks. Zero is about 80-90yds.
I agree with Seafire and Rob if a lot of your shots will be past 100 yards.

If most shots will be 100 yards or less I would sight-in for 80 yards to prevent missing high on the small targets. Then I would see where the dots fall in the distance at 9x power.

I haven't shot my 22 Mag in a while. Thinking about it makes me want to break it out for some exercise.

I've got a 2-7x Nikon pro-staff on my .22 mag.. Have taken chucks out to 200 yards with it. Can't imagine ever needing more x's on a .22 mag. chuck gun.

I've got a Marlin MN in 22 Mag... use to carry it in my 4 Runner as a Truck Gun.... have had it 35 years now... paid $100 for it...

most of its life it has had a Tasco 3 x 9 x 40 on top of it...

use to load 40 grain FMJ CCI ammo in it...

that rifle has dispatched a dozen plus deer over the years, from 75 to 125 yds, with head shots right between the eyes.... always from a rest and they have always been deer that have been hit by cars and wondered from the highway quite evidently in a lot of pain with broken shoulders, hips or legs..

one shot from that Marlin, never ever failed.... no second shot was ever needed.

paid $99 for that rifle, and over its life time with me, it has taken uncountable number of animals from varmints, to squirrels to dispatching deer hit by cars or trucks...

always a fan of the 40 grain FMJ from CCI... they use to be cheap and always available anywhere.... Haven't carried that rifle or shot it since 2009, when Obama came to office and the ammo hoarding started in this country.
I have a Leupold 6x42 with LRD reticle on my Ruger Boat Paddle .22 WRM. Using W-W Super-X 40 gr. JHP ammo, if I sight in at 100 yards, the dots are good for just about exactly an additional 25 yards each.

The Burris Ballistic Plex reticle has holdover information on many calibers, 22 WMR included. Go to Burris' website and look for the information there. If that doesn't work, I may have some information that will help.

find a Pride-fowler in 22mag.
Put a Leupold 2-7 on mine.. Got a good deal from a local shop.. I shoot a lot of ground squirrels with mine so like the higher power.. For 'chucks the 4x should work..
