I just got 500 Sierra .243 95gr TMK target bullets for my Sako and custom varmint rifles. Is anyone shooting them in a 1 in 10" twist barrel and if so how well do they do?
Will be interested in how it works out for ya Dave....
I could see making a similar purchase if'n they work out for ya.....not like I'm short 22 or 6mm bullets, but admit, haven't tried those yet....the tipped Sierra Match stuff.. that sounds like a good one to start off with....
I contacted Natchez and they'll let me return them so that's what I'm going to do. I ordered 500 Hornady 87gr V-Max bullets. I don't plan to be shooting over 300 yards so the difference in BC isn't much to worry about.
Dave,
Just FYI.... in the 87 grain range....my 243s have shown a major preference at distance with the 87 gr BTHP over the V Max......
but then if you are looking at varmints, then the V Max will be more fragile....
even their 87gr SP has been more accurate in my 243s ( talking 5 of them), then the 87 V Max....
haven't been able to figure that out, but that's what the rifles yield...
just passing it on
In that range, I had the best results with 85gr Sierra hpbt's. Velocity is good and they buck the wind really well. Only issue I had was MASSIVE exit wounds on coyotes under 100 yards. So i switched to 55gr blitzkings and haven't looked back.......except on windy days haha
I have shot the TMK in my 6XC.
Accuracywise they stand right there with 105gr VLDs and A-Maxes, producing 1.0" - 10 shot groups at 100 meters.
Performancewise they expand more violently than the A-Maxes, and less violently than the 87gr V-Maxes.
With the A-Maxes I always got pass throughs on broadside shots on roe bucks, and about 70 percent of the time on big Kalahari sprinbucks.
With the TMK I only had one pass through out of four roe bucks, all of which were shot broadside,
Just my two cents.
I sent the Sierras back and got some Hornady 87gr V-Max bullets.
