Just traded into a Cooper 16 in 223 WSSM ( yeah I know but a buddy had brass) . Anyone shot these or the 16 in other calibers? Looks and feels like a great rifle with a great factory trigger . Thanks in advance for any feedback .

A friend of mine has a model 16 in 6MM PPC and it pretty much a one hole rifle if he does his part. I've been around a fair number of Coopers and His is the only model 16 I have ever seen.

Obsolete action and obsolete cartridge. What could go wrong.

Not sure how a bolt action of any type could be considered obselete. Same with the chambering , once you handload and have a supply of brass I don't really see how it's considered obselete.

Is a 220 Swift obsolete?

No experience with the 16 but I have owned a few coopers. The one I still own is probably my favorite rifle. Actually I guess I have two. Bought a Jackson Squirrel Rifle in .22 also that is a gem. If the ergonomics of their rifles fit you they are a no brainer. Every one I have owned or been around has been a shooter. If you like them, buy one with confidence.

Well basically Yes it is.
Manufacturers chambering it. 2 remington and cooper.
Factory ammo. Seasonal runs only, I havent seen 220 Swift ammo on the shelf since 2000. You can special order from Nosler for 86 bucks a 20 but Its OUT OF STOCK as is Remmy and Win. Norma doesnt make it any more.
Brass basically only 1 Norma, Remmy and winchester are pretty much dead. 8 years now and counting.

In the ammunition business, a cartridge is labeled "obsolescent" when new factory made rifles are no longer being produced for it, but factory loaded ammunition is still available from at least one of the major ammo companies. After the last factory loads have been discontinued the cartridge is usually referred to as "obsolete."

So by definition if the Swift isnt obsolete, it might as well be.

Addendum : Model 16 (discontinued) - single shot action for cartridges based on the WSSM family, as well as 6BR and 6 mm PPC.
The 6ppc and all WSSM cartridges are gone. The 6BR is still chambered in the Model 22.

Nuttin personal but my local Dunhams has Hornady and Nosler 220 Swift in stock and it is $27 or $47 a box.Midway has it in stock at that price also.Winchester brass?Find the right shop.I was propping up my powder and primer stock and asked for 2 204 ruger reloading brass.I expected a 100 rounds of Hornady in 2 50 round boxes.I got 2 bags of 100 each Winchester brass. You need to ask the right questions.Don't need to open them yet,got plenty more Hornady.204 Ruger will never be obsolete for me in my lifetime.223 wssm?Don't know don't care. However obsolete cartridge firearms seem to be more collectible in certain models.Dies are out there to form brass if you have the money.

I always like it when someone makes a good trade for a new rifle. I'll be interested to hear how you're getting along with it. There's likely some good load development work already done for you which should allow you to focus on a few powder/bullet combinations.
Keep us apprised on how its going.
