i have a 17 mach IV rifle but little in the way of proper brass.
has anybody used 17 rem fireball cases (available) to form cases for the 17 Mach IV ?
if so, how did you go about it ?

Buddy of mine has a 17 mk4. He just runs the FB brass through the mk4 die and they work just fine for him. You should be good to go.

Metricman: I had my 17 MachIV built a ways back now and have used (VERY successfully I might add!) plain old 221 Remington Fireball brass in it.
My heavy barrel 17 MachIV (with LOTS of scope power) shoots extremely well (accuracy wise) and the brass is long lived.
When I bought my Remington 700 VSF in 17 Remington Fireball I began using the factory 17 Remington Fireball brass - never tried to convert the 17 Remington Fireball brass over to 17 MachIV - no need as yet.
I do not see any reason it would not work though - fireforming may aid in obtaining top accuracy?
Good luck.

Ben Lurkin: Is it 17 Remington Fireball brass your friend just runs through the 17 MachIV die or is it 221 Remington Fireball brass he resizes?
Brass for both the 17 Remington Fireball and the 221 Remington Fireball can be tough to find.

thanks for response
the mach IV brass i got with the rifle is formed from 221 fireball brass.i have only a limited amount of it.
i was able to obtain some 17 fireball brass so was wondering about its suitability.

is there not some fireforming involved?

VG: He did as you did originally and simply used 221 FB brass. I bought a whole bunch of the Nosler 17 FB brass from Shooters pro shop last fall because I want to build a walking varmint rifle on a Rem Seven action I have. I once had a factory 17 FB but it shot horribly so I turned it into a 204 Ruger. He wanted to try some of my brass for his mach IV so I gave him a few to try and they worked just fine.

I have some 17 Fireball brass I picked up from High Plains Brass, that has been reformed and cut down from Lake City military brass.. it comes sized already, deprimed and cleaned...now it runs $40 per 100....

bought it because I've always been saying I'll get around to order a barrel and have it chambered in the Fireball or Mach4..
have ordered a barrel, after waiting 6 months and it got lost in transit... the factory refunded my money, instead of me waiting
another 6 months or more...

Still kick myself for not buying one of the Rem Model 7 Predators... but money was tight at the time...

If you need a set of dies I have a set of Redding dies with Redding trim and form dies also a RCBS neck sizer. I would take $80.00 shipped to the lower 48 if interested.

The 17 Mach1V is pretty easy to make brass for. I've made it from 223=222=221. Just watch your neck thickness if you start with 223 Lake City.
