Never took a deer with a shotgun slug.....until Friday evening. Shot a doe with my 12 gauge 1100 and rifled barrel with 20 minutes of daylight to spare. I also used a handloaded slug (Lyman 525 grain Sabot slug) that I cast myself. The load is as follows:
Remington Unibody hull
Win 209 primer
37.5 grains of sr4756
WAA12F114 wad (Claybuster copy)
Lyman slug.

Excellent! Never loaded a slug before much less one casted myself. Love to give it a try someday. You should be proud.

I have used the CB clones of WAA12F114 however. Seems I remember the shot cups were shorter in the CB's. Mute point now that Winchester has discontinued the WAA12F114. Still got a few of the original Win's for those shoot-off occasions wink .

Is IMR still producing SR4756? Have not seen it available for awhile and have heard they are discontinuing some powders. I've used it in 9mm but never tried it in shotguns.

No...it's no longer being produced; Hodgdon, in it's infinite wisdom, decided to do away with PB, 7625, and 4756. I started looking for powder when I heard the news, but I think that they D/Cd it a LONG time ago and just didn't bother to tell anyone.
4756 is (was) a great powder!!! I used it in 9mm, 38 special, 38 Super, and several shotshell loads in 12 & 16 gauge, most notably in nontoxic loads.
Now the bean counters at Hodgdon are trying to force "their" powders on us....Longshot, HS6, etc. Wouldn't mind too much....except that they don't put put a lot of data for slugs, nontoxic, ect. I do think I have found a promising replacement using Federal hulls and 800-X, but a little more testing needs to be done.
I too have been looking for IMR-4756, I have a can and a half left which I "Hoard" for 12 gauge 1 1/4 pheasant loads. There is always the dirty burning BlueDot when all IMR shotshell powders are gone.

Doc
I've played a bit with 1# of Longshot. Loads I tried kicked hard and were loud. I was not impressed with the breaks (or misses). Using up 8#'s of Pro Reach now and like it better. Regular "Buddy" shooter suggested that the Longshots velocity was blowing the pattern. If I ever load it again I'll put some different loads on paper and find out.

Using WAA12R and WAA12F114 wads with the Pro Reach. IMO the Down Range WAA12F114 clone is much closer to the original.

Got 8# of 7625 reasonably this spring. Thought it would last awhile for 9mm loads. Considering it's demise I hope it sucks for the 12 smile.
CONGRATS!
