Classic Doubles are getting hard to find. In my usual places I'm not seeing anything but steel, which I don't want to put into a 98 year old 16 gauge model 12. Any recommendations without selling out the honey-hole? I'd just like to float the river this fall with the older gun. Any replies appreciated.

Mack's Prairie Wings has some 16 gauge 5's and 6's classic Doubles. I've used the 5's for jump shooting and decoying. As long as you're not sky busting they work fine.

Thanks again Mart, saw your reply on Ask the GW's, carp
If you are a reloader, you have a couple of options: Bismuth

...or NICE shot

Both are pricey, yes.....but if you are only shooting a few shells a year through a special firearm, it should last you a while.

You can also get loaded shotshells from Able Ammo:

Good luck..........
Search for RST shotshells. They make a variety of shells both lead and non toxic in low pressure
Good luck with RST. I've been on their "notify me" list for over a year. They still show all their Nice Shot loads as out of stock or unavailable.
ITX shot from Ballistic Products works very good for me. I do most of my waterfowl hunting with old doubles. I load 7/8 oz. in the 12ga and 3/4 oz in the 16ga both 2 1/2". Cost runs around $35./25.

I believe RIO is loading Bismuth shot 12ga and Kent Tungsten Matrix for old guns with 2 3/4" chambers.
