My local gun shop has what I consider a GREAT DEAL on a like new Remington 700 XCR Rifle in caliber 300 Winchester Magnum. This Rifle has a very pleasing camouflage fiberglass stock with a finely fitted non-sticky rubber recoil pad (factory). It is a Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Rifle with a pleasing bronze emblem in the stock. The bolt face appears as new but the Rifle has two piece Leupold bases and rings (matte finish matching the action rather well) - again the bolt face appears "un-fired"? The barrel is 24" long and is the half round half "triangle" contour with factory recessed crown.
The best part of this rig is the price (IMO!) - the shop is asking $625.00 (no sales tax in Montana).
I am a bit recoil shy or I would have bought it today myself - it is newly onto the rack and I predict it won't last long at this close to give-away price.
First of the month gets here and my mad-money gets renewed I may buy it myself and try to make a 250 dollar bill off'n it!
The shop is open Tuesday through Saturday 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM - phone number 406-683-9844.

I have the same RMEF type rifle in 7mm. That is a decent price..
Thanks for the heads up!
M1Riflenut & Ogdonia: Yes I am getting the "itch" for this gun myself.
I am going through town today and will see about the trigger pull on it.
Thanks.

excellent rifle and that is a very good price on an absolute do all caliber....... if i needed another 300 win mag i would buy this one
Just curious, are you sure it's an XCR? You say it has a triangular barrel, I don't recall the XCR ever coming with one of those. The VTR however, did.

i think all vtr's are short action i do have one in a 308 win
I had a 300 rum vtr
Snowboardguy: Well that is what is/was on the sales tag (XCR) I don't remember seeing it on the Rifle but will check.
I went to the shop today and unbeknownst to me they are closed until Wednesday January 3rd - according to the sign on the front door.
I have several Remington 700 VTR's in calibers from 223 Remington on up to 308 Winchester and indeed they have the heavy triangle barrels.
But this long action Remington 700 XCR has a 24" half round half triangle "sporter weight" barrel - that barrel is round coming out from the action and about halfway down the barrels length it switches to "triangle shape".
Maybe M1RifleNut can check his Rifle and its model designation soon as I won't be able to double check on my memory until January 3rd? And while M1RifleNut is checking the model designation he can verify the half round half triangle barrel configuration.
I wonder if the Rocky Mountain Wolf Foundation asked Remington to make up some special Rifles for their banquet sales?
I try to keep up with all things Remington 700 but I did NOT know that Remington 700 VTR's also came in long actions like "Hrnhuntr" above relays.

I am not sure of it being called a vtr, but it did have the trianglular shaped 26 inch barrel. I believe the vtr stands for varmint target rifle.
A web search says the magnums with sporter contour triangle barrels were XHR
👍🏻 to Varmint guy for passing on a great deal on a good rifle, no matter what shape the barrel! I have taken advantage of his good will in the past!!
VTR was my thought as well. I’ve never seen a XCR with the triangle shaped BBL.
Big difference in the values of the two.
The heads up though is awesome, it’s always appreciated when members share info on local deals.

Well done. I wasn't even aware of the XHR model.

That’s it👍
Someone must have grabbed it still warm after you set it down that day; it was long gone by the time they opened the doors this morning.
Some nice stuff showing up on shops. I just saw a beautiful wood stocked Montana Rifle Co. 300WSM in a local pawn shop for $1099. If it was a 308Win I'd have walked out with it.
Yes, gone.

I emailed and left VM during their Inventory shut
down and it was gone when they reopened to the
public….
