I am selling this nice Sako for my brother who bought the gun from a co-worker who hand carried it in here from Germany. It has a mfg date of 1968 (34XXX), from the best days at Sako era. It has the Bofors 24" steel barrel and the third rear locking lug on the bolt. Its a deluxe model which means it has a very nicely engraved floorplate and trigger guard, handcut skipline checkering, rosewood grip cap and forend, and the original Sako recoil pad. Burris steel mounts and rings.
Now as to condition, if you are a collector or looking for a "safe queen" from 40 years ago, this isn't your gun. This rifle is in the "shooter" category. I would put it at NRA- Very Good. It has been very well taken care of, the bore is pristine, and it is in 100% working condition. It is all original and we havent tried to "touch up" anything. But my brother is an avid hunter and this rifle has hunting wear. Besides deer camp here in Michigan, he has used this rifle on several Western hunts, including some on horseback for elk and mule deer. The rifle was carried in leather rifle scabbards for many miles on horseback. This means the bluing is well worn off the front end of the barrel and blade front sight. There are also rub marks and a couple scratches on the top of the barrel from scabbard wear too. The bolt knob bluing is well worn. The wood is in very good shape, no cracks, chips or gouges. A few light scratches on the right side of the butt from carrying while hunting. I have seen my brother fire some nice groups using factory ammunition. He has the same Sako rifle in .270 which he is keeping. We have the original steel hood for the front sight and a MINT Sako peep sight , which we believe was never mounted, as part of the package.
Guys, if you are looking for a pristine collector, this isn't it. But if you want a beautiful, high quality, precision shooting "working rifle" that won't embarrass you in front of your friends, this one will put you there.
Price is $875 shipped and insured to your FFL in CONUS. We would prefer a USPS MO. Usual 3 day (Do Not Fire) Inspection period. If you dont like anything about it, send it back and your MO will be cheerfully returned to you. A few pics added below.
