Weatherbyhunter posted a wanted to trade add for NF Scopes... (which he has conveniently edited)
He stated he had 5.5-22 and 3.5-15 NightForce scopes that he wanted to trade for a NightForce 2.5-10 or similar...
I asked what condition his NightForce Scopes were in and this was his reply...

Via PM's we came to an agreement and I boxed up a NightForce Compact 2.5-10x32 Low velocity Zero stop scope and sent it out via UPS... He was supposed to do the same with his NightForce 5.5-22x50 and ship it out... That did not happen as planned...
To make a long story short I finally got the scope he sent today and it is not even close to or a NightForce scope...
I've done a ton of transactions via these type of forums and as of late it seems the douches are out in force...

Ill vouch for EHG to. I've delt with him and is first class. It a damn shame people have to do this kind of s**t. I'd call his local police to pay him a visit. Or do it yourself. That's a 1500.00 hit.

I hadn't even heard of Nitrex so did a search - back in Dec. of 2010 they were blowing them out for $149 in a group buy on AR15.com.
The guy registered here on 11/4/2012 and has 30 posts mostly in Free Classifieds, not a good sign. You hate to not make deals with someone new but nowadays there seems to be some kinda of scam everywhere. I assume you have his address from mailing the scope and receiving the one he sent. You may want to see if anyone here is local to him and take it up with authorities

I damn near got burned here a while ago, but luckily enough red flags went up that I was able to do a little digging and found out the sumbitch had hijacked an actual members PayPal account and was able to get payment reversed before it was too late. [bleep] actually mailed me two fist size chunks of concrete for what were supposed to be Leica Geovids.

EHG, I wonder what info can be garnered from that shipping label? If it was shipped through a USP Store they may have valuable info and there's a good possibility they have video. Can't guarantee it'll go anywhere, but with the value of your Nightforce it reaches the felony level, and I'd be on the horn to the PD in Texas.

You'll see the same shotgun listed by longrangehunter80 and again later under Weatherbyhunter. Photos under longrangehunter80 show a green stethoscope curled on the floor next to the gun and occupation under his profile lists "technician." If I had to guess you're looking for a 32 year old EMT running with a rescue squad or working in an ER there in TX...

I used a collections agency to get my stuff from Joe Adams who did the same, just get ahold of the collections agency in his area, they can make his life pretty miserable, you may lose a few hundred like I did, but I did it out of principle.
I don't know which is worse, that he is beyond stupid to ship it in a visable "Nightforce" box or that he actually had the balls to send "A" scope in it.
Need some type of feedback system where you can see how many deals/transactions someone has made and the outcome.

i bought the 257 weatherby magnum he has advertised here on the forum. Paid him for a weathrrby magnum mark v that he advertised was only shot 32 times. i did recieve the rifle but it looks like it had been shot 3200 times. Asked a couple of people if they think it has been shot a lot but the ones i asked could not tell. Going to take it out this weekend and make sure it works.

They can do something, they just won't . Take this to the Postal Inspectors and let them track him down, they will put you in jail for mail fraud. How was the scope payed for and where was the check or money order cashed, the answer to these two questions will be a start to catching him or her.
EHG is a stand up guy, very sorry to hear this. I have always taken people at their word and almost always ship before I receive payment, I suppose I will get bit one of these days. Hope you can resolve this somehow EHG, I hope the douchbag gets what's coming to him.

So sorry this happened to you Anthony. I shipped $100 worth of bullets once that the package got torn open and lost by USPS, I refunded the $$$ to the buyer and never seen the bullets, just the torn package, empty.

When I had a similar situation occur on a rifle shipment from Alabama, the Deer Park Police Department was ready to jump on it with both feet. They encouraged me toward resolution.
The situation righted itself but they were cocked and ready to go to bat for me.

As a retired LEO I can tell you first hand that the old adage "The squeaky wheel gets the grease" should be your guide.Dealing with any agency from afar is difficult with lack of interest due to the case not having a local victim to answer to.The standard response when a request for assistance is made is that the case is a civil matter rather than criminal.From the many replies it does appear that the various victims including you, did indeed enter into a civil contract involving an agreed trade of goods.The criminal aspect is that the goods were misrepresented involving fraud/theft. Remembering that squeaky wheel you need to burn up the phones to any and all the agencys in that area and don`t be satisfied until you speak with the Chief or Sheriff directly. From the documentation from your incident and the others from different forums it would appear that this miscreant is operating a continuing criminal enterprise. With the facts you have and others that I`m sure will come to light it may be that you can gain the ear of a state attorney or other and have this clown prosecuted under the Rico statute.It is apparent that this isn`t an isolated incident and that he has no intention of quiting. I understand the reluctance to deal with someone who has not been around long - on the other hand I could spend some time posting meaningless and insincere crap in various sub-forums just to get a post count up but that doesn't make me any more honest or legitimate to deal with. Bottom line for me is that I will deal with people fairly, do everything I can to safeguard myself in a transaction and scream blood murder when someone wrongs me. The only reasonable alternative is only trading FTF locally and that severely limits your opportunites for finding what you want and selling what you no longer need.

I once sold a Leupold scope to a guy in FL, he sent me a check and like a dumb azs I shipped the same day, well he got the scope before his check cleared and he put a stop payment on the check and would not talk anymore, the scope was sold for $275.00. Well had a friend set up a deal to sell something to him and we were on a road trip to FL. Met in person we exchanged money and item, buddy said to him let me take a sticker off the box once he handed the box over to my buddy he went sat in the car and I gave him change and a email page on our deal, plus stop payment charges and gas receipts, I got in the car and he said he was going to call the cops I asked if he wanted me to call for him, end of story. I would have done anything to get my money and that included putting him in the hospital if need be and that was for a $275 scope who know what I may do for a $1500.00 scope, might of got my money back and still put him in the hospital

That is Jesse and the phone you have is the same one i still have and have over 200 text messages with the low life SOB, the little [bleep] head done the very same thing to me a year ago ( in fact it was Dec 20, 2011) with the very same Nitrix scope, I didnt give up and contacted the FFL that i sent my rifle too and after some bad words and a few threats jesse took everything back to the FFL, I shipped the Nitrix back to his FFL and in return he sent my rifle back. i made sure with the FFL that he verified the serial number on the rifle that he recorded in when it was shipped to him was the same one he was sending back, still cost me over $300.00 for shipping the rifle both ways and his NF Nitrix scope and the FFL charged me $90.00 for his fee's to send it back to me. One thing i can say is he must have got a NF box from someone because he sent the Nitrix to me in a Shock absober box...
He was using BigMac at the time on here, I saved his FS post on the NF he was selling. I have talked to 3 others that i know of on LRH, one has got his money back and i dont know how but he did and the one from montana (frank)still has not got anything back and has gave up because of all the BS.

His address and all personal info is listed in this thread, but not sure which page it's on. There's really nothing we don't know about him at this point. I'm sure he'll be sleeping with one eye open tonight. His wife may have already kicked him out of the house.

What's the sad part about this IDIOT doing what he did is. I am looking for a NF or the likes scope for a 50 cal I am buying but now am kind of gun shy about buying one off of LRS site. They always have some for sale on it but because of this MORON I don't know who to trust over there being I haven't had dealings there like I have had here. This site has a great bunch to deal with with a few exceptions like this clown.

If this all works out and EHG does indeed get his scope back, it fills me with good vibes and Christmas Cheer to the quality of people who have stepped forward to help out.
The downside is this dipchit has likely been ripping people off since 3rd grade and threats via-computer screen, phone calls, etc.. aren't going to make him stop. I'm sure he has had dozens, if not hundreds of people threaten to bust him up. Being punished by the law is what needs to happen. I know it is difficult, but is there anyway charges can be brought against him? I know it is probably a pain in the azz with state lines and red tape, but it needs to happen.
And as much fun as it would be to see him forced to take a ride out to the hills, that is probably going to cause the "enforcers" a bunch of trouble while he ends up being the victim.

There are so many "accidents" that can befall a POS like this at any time. At the grocery store, gas station, lunch break at work, walking down the street.

You can fill out a small form at the Post Office that allows you to have people mail things to you in care of the postmaster for 30 days. No charge. The package/letter is held in your name, and you just call at the PO window and pick it up.

The story I got in my initial phone call to Jesse is he did NOT have an account on the 24hourcampfire and was not aware of anything I was talking about... During this call I was disconnected (service sucks here) but within minutes received an email notification of a PM from Weatherbyhunter (Jesse) and a few minutes later another notification...
I drove to a better location for service and called again and got the story that Weatherbyhunter was actually his 16 year old step brothers account and Jesse had just got the login info from the 16 year old brother... The stories and the bullshit continued Blah Blah Blah...
By no means have I come to an agreement or conclusion to this event or has anything been "taken care of"...
I could give a rats ass if Jesse, 16 year old Brother, Kerry, Grandma or who ever the [bleep] done it gets hammered, but somebody needs to be held accountable...
I have again talked with the Bastrop Sheriffs Office to no avail...I have talked with the Post Master here and a USPS Regional Supervisor to no avail and a UPS Security/Fraud Supervisor in my area who actually was receptive and took a report for further investigation...
There are a few attorneys here on the 'Fire that have stated to me via PM that they are going to contact DA's and Sheriff's in Bastrop County and surrounding counties and make them aware of the fraud that has happening in their area...
A few individuals claimed to have filed reports with IC3 as well... Again this PM'd to me...
Then there is always the good ole fashioned justice...

The bottom line, most situations like this are going to wind up civil in nature. There are some statutes that can work under the right set of circumstances, but that's a lot of "ifs" coming together. What can happen is a visit just for the sake of trying to make things right.
We (LEOs) can't take direct action in civil matters but we can/do "gently guide" them a lot of times.

Only problem with your story: his scheme ran over three years and involved a hell of a lot more than a few internet firearms sales. You advance this little story like you f*ckers just made a couple of phone calls and the cops ended their donut break and ran right out and collected your money. I've read the case and I don't think anyone got their money back. That really paid some dividends.

Personally, I don't believe that they are "new" members. I'll say one thing about the 24CF, you guys know how to take care of each other in the Classifieds. I had a problem a few years back with a scope I had purchased and a member, who I'd never met or interacted with, helped me out tremendously. Eventually I got what I had paid for and all ended well. But I seriously doubt that would have happened without some pressure from a fellow member here. It was great and I am still appreciative of what he did.

Were we the only one involved, probably not, but you never know how these things are going to turn out. Again, it never hurts to make the phone call. I'm glad we did. The guy was convicted of a felony.
And it netted you what? Great effort. And the point still escapes you: it took a BIG case to get the authorities involved. And you still didn't get [bleep], because they don't collect your debts.

Are they going to run out and knock on his door? That get's there attention and when they nail him he goes to jail for a long time...

He was trying to string me out past the 30 day complaint period on e-bay. I did not wait the 30 days, filed my fraud complaint and finally got my money back from E-BAY. And only because they offer the 50K protection on E-bay trans actions. I called the local county sherriff, local Chief of police, local DA and anyone that would take my phone call. Filed internet fraud papers with the FBI. Guess what, no one, NO ONE would touch it. The SOB is probably still walking around. It was like this was not a big deal, not a big enough crime. I bought one of those people search things for $39.95 On THOMAS LAMBERT from MINNESOTA (you lying bastid) and found out (too late) that he has a rap sheet for ripping people off , scams, and non-payment . So all of you that think the law is going to help you on an out of state mail fraud/internet fraud you don't know [bleep]. I've been there-done that. I don't expect you all will apologize to BT, but he sure is correct on this one. Mark.
When I talked to local county sheriff, he did a few drive bys at the jerks address, and sure enough, there was my Suburban, just like the picture on e-bay. He was driving it , all the while telling me that the motor blew after I scheduled a truck to come pick it up. If i didn't get my money back. Me my brother, and my best friend were planning to pay mister Lambert a visit and take my Sub home with us. I was going to get something for my 4K. Glad that E-Bay is a stand up company and backs up their car sales with that 50k fraud insurance. I suppose e-bay did not prosecute as they probably filed a claim to their ins. Mark.
