Nice gun - had one like it years ago - pretty heavy to carry in the deer woods all day so I went to a lighter model. I would say $700 plus

If it were a 30-06, I'd make an offer on right now. What importer (if any) mark does it have on the barrel? Ser # range would help establish whether it was pre/post Garcia?

Nice gun... value of the gun is very dependant of part of the country you are in and the cal... Some people really try to charge high dollars for these guns and honestly I believe they are worth it as they are wonderfully made guns... (sure can not touch something close made today for under several thousand). However, with that said, they just do not bring more than 700 to 800 around our neck of the woods.

I am thinking its pre-Garcia-looking at the bolt. Very nice wood on this one

Im close to Murfreesboro, Tn. Not sure about the importer mark but i will look when i get home this evening. The serial number is 80XXX. What years and serial numbers where the pre Garcia?

Looks pretty clean, I'd venture $750ish.

A heck of a lot of rifle for the money. These were a lot better built gun than the $750-$800 guns of today.

Most I have seen are priced around $1000.I don't think they are being snatched up at $1000 and would think it would sell faster at $700-$800.

They are very nice guns. It's just that light weight, stainless and synthetic are more in vogue right now.

last year I bought:

1. AIII 30'06 Classic 90%...$650
2. AV 270 Hunter 90%...$700
3. AI 223 std 95%...$800.

The 223 was nicer than your 7 mag.

2 lug SAKOes just don't bring the money they should.

If you decide to get rid of it let me know. I'm in your area.

It's not a pre Garcia. Hard to tell with sako serial numbers but you probably have a Garcia or early stoeger sako. Still a quality rifle. I've seen these sell locally from 650-750. They don't bring quite as much as a bofors steel marked sako although the quality should be just as good. There are some good examples of a pre Garcia on the sako collectors website. Your checkering, stock, and serial # does not match that era. The bolt would be a 3 lug instead of the 2 lug of the Garcia era.

I paid $800 for a 90-95% AV in .280 Rem. last Feb. Rifle had really nice wood too.

$800 is about right and a lot of gun for the money when you compare it to the price of a new Model 85. One of the best actions made, IMO.

If the rifle came into the US after 1968, there should be an importer mark.

Your serial number indicates 1970 to 1973 manufacture for a L61R. Garcia was importing from around 1971 to around 1978, then Stoegers took over till Beretta.

Very nice rifle you have there.
