Well my son is becoming increasingly obsessed with fishing/water, so I need to move a gun to make room for a kayak. I have three options:

First up - 1954 Marlin 39A with new Lyman receiver sight. I have the original rear sight, as well. The wood is immaculate, except for the missing bullseye. The metal is overall very good, except for a little old freckling on the right side of the receiver, but you can only see it in the right light. The bore is bright, with ballard rifling. Shoots and functions great, with full magazine or just a few in the tube, fast or slow cycling. Asking $575 shipped.

2. - Ruger No. 1, K1-B in .300 Win. Mag. Buttpad added and forearm slimmed by someone prior to my ownership, but very functional and well done modifications. Flat out tack-driver; real-deal lights out shooter. Loves 7828 and interbonds. This would come with a Leupold Vari-X iic matte 3-9x40 (not currently mounted). Some hunting rubs on the barrel, but not overly noticeable. I can take close up pics if necessary. Asking $1,000 for the scope/rifle shipped.

3. - Ruger No. 1A LNIB .222. Round count <40. Not a mark or scratch anywhere. Interesting wood for a new gun. This one would come with either the Weaver Grand Slam 3-10x40 in the pics or a Leupold VX-I 4-12 gloss (for a bit more $). Also included would be a new set of RCBS dies and about 120 Winchester brass, about 80 unfired. This rifle shows a lot of accuracy potential, groups with the front bag tucked way back under the forearm/receiver were tiny. $1,200 for the package, shipped.

I don't even like lever guns and that Marlin is tempting...

Nice smile
Thank you. smile

I didn't wake up this morning thinking I was going to buy a rifle today, but getting a really nice older Marlin 39 is one of those things that reside in the back of your mind waiting for the right opportunity to present itself. After jstamper emailed me some more pics I could see this was the one. It's in beautiful shape overall and checking for similar items on gunbroker showed his price is very reasonable.

I made the obligatory 30 second attempt to talk myself out of it, failed of course, and said the magic words... wink
nice 222
The Marlin is sold.

The .222 is off the table, but the .300 is still up. $950 scoped, $800 bare. Let me know if anyone wants more pics.

I can dig it. I have a slightly pre-Remlin 39A, safety and rebounding hammer that I really like and would sell it in a NY minute if I found one like you found. Fortunately, not all is sad in Mudville, I do have a 50's vintage Mountie laugh .... it's in shooter conditions (no idea of % this or that) and shoots just fine smile

Congrats again!
The year of my birth and and inception of my father's and uncles' ensuing great consternation. smile

Nice rifle, Jim.
