2 years ago, I went from the Astro to the Alpha. The Alpha is head and shoulders above the Astro IMO. Better range, less interference, and just easier to tell what's going on. The shocking part is nice too. It costs more $, but it's cheaper to go Alpha from the start than to upgrade later (unless you hunt with people who use the Astro, then your kinda stuck). Just something to think about. Good luck.
