Looking for my 12 year old son. Any leads or suggestions are much appreciated!
We recently started out my bud's 12 year old on my old Ruger 77 tang safety .243. He is good sized boy but not huge. I really feel we did the right thing with the .243 because even the 30-30 and 44 mag rifles we were considering seemed to bother him a bit more. These rifles recoil about 2-4 lbs more, respectively. With a 308 and a 150 gr. bullet, recoil energy is nearly double that of a 243 with 100 gr. bullets.
He managed to take his first deer, a small buck, with my 100 gr. SGK handload. Just something to think about. Good luck to you and your son......
Remington 660, .308, 20" barrel. I would say 95% condition. PM if your interested.
How nice? I have a Sako 75 synthetic/stainless.... I would take $1000 shipped
I have a 700 ADL SS Sporter bbl .308 in a MCMillan Edge Stock. glazer1972 at yahoo dot com.
Get a 308 and pick up some Hornady lite recoil (125gr). My daughter did not like full 150gr or 130gr, but enjoys shooting the light loads in her Marlin XS7. She also started with a 243, but it was time to step up because her little sis will be shooting the 243 this year.
If this is his first rifle get him something to remember and keep. In a 308, I'm slightly partial to the Model 70 Classic Stainless. You can always find a composite stock for it until he gets a little older. Mine is not for sale.
1. Ruger 77 in good shape in a synthetic stock 308
2. Browning Medallion..98% 308
Both have scopes
PM if interrested
