Remington 788 .243, with iron sights and standard wood stock. Serial number indicates 1971 manufacture, and rifle is in good condition.

i have the same gun in 6mm and it shoots bug holes.
most underrated remington out there.

I agree, friend of mine has one in a 223, and it does amazing with factory Hornady 55gr. SP

I talked to a Remington rep about the 788 years ago. He said the reason they discontinued it was because the inexpensive 788 outshot their more expensive 700. Dunno if that is true, but that is what he told me.

Your Remington Rep lied to you.

I worked in Remington Engineering department at the time. It was due to the expense of milling those lugs. The 788 was as expensive to build as the 700.

Sure Chevrolet would stop making a Camero if it out performed a Corvette.

Well I should not have said lied. I think some of those reps were "not informed".
