Hi y'all,
I am going to buy a new waterfowl hunting gun next week and have been in all of the places in OKC that I buy guns. I have found a place that has a Winchester Super X2 that is new, never fired, on close out sale for $500. It is the black on black, 3" chamber with a 26" barrel. I have been looking at Stoeger 2000 and the Mossy 930 in that price range as well. Can anyone tell me if this is a good deal and if this gun is a good gun please? If you would recommend the others then let me know that as well. I am obviously looking for the most gun for the money and I have about $600 to spend. Thanks in advance!!!
The retail listing a few years ago was over $800. IMO it's a real good deal price wise if you like it better than the other two.
I shot wobble trap last Friday with a buddy who bought a SXM2 about five years ago - he says he still loves it, best shotgun he owns; $500.00 for a new one is a very good price. In my opinion it is a better gun than the other two you have listed (they are okay, but the Winchester is a level above).
My guess is the reason the SX2 is $500.00 is due to the 26 inch barrel. Most waterfowlers would want a 28" or 30" barrel.

Doc
2 inches doesn't make that much difference...although some women might tell you otherwise. grin
I've been shooting a 26 inch SBE for ducks and geese since the 90's, and it works just fine. Sounds like a good price for a new one...and I do like it better than the other two.
26" works great, especially if you screw in an extended choke tube - you will have a longer barrel.
When you consider the length of the receiver adds around 3" or so to the overall length of the gun a 26" semiauto is longer than a 28" over and under. For a semiauto for everything from quail to ducks I'd rather have the 26. YMMV.

It usually gets down to who's shooting not what they're shooting but the more I think about that deal the better it sounds. I agree with the other posters that the Winchester's a higher grade gun. If the SuperX2 feels right to you buy it.
The more I think about this deal, the better it sounds to me too. The group of waterfowl buddies that have graciously taken me in hunt a lot out of hay bail blinds so the shorter barrel length I think would actually be better. I get the funds next week, so I will spend the whole weekend sitting in my deer blind worrying that someone else might buy it!! Thanks for all of the comments guys!!
I've gunned a SX2 for ducks and geese here on Green Bay and snows in MO. It's also taken crows, been gunned for clays (trap, sporting and skeet). I've fired everything from trap loads to 3.5 mag with an extended mag (torch off 6 3.5's as fast as you can and that will let you know the quality of your fillings)

Heck of a gun - probably has over 4000 rounds thru it easily with nary a hiccup. Not bad for an auto and it ran 10000x better than the Rem 11-87 my brother ran.

I'd snap it up at 500 WAY before the other 2.
sx-2 is a terrific gun, tough as nails and dead reliable even with dirty buning wallyworld ammo. 500 is a good deal there.

+1
Thanks for everyone's posts and advice, going to get the gun today!
The Win SX2/Browning Gold series are awesome guns.

I personally use a 24" barrel when waterfowl hunting out of layout blinds, as it makes it much handier to get up and out quickly.
I regret selling my SX2
i've sold 2 of them. one of them on 3 seperate ocassions. that makes me a documented dim whit.
Anyone happen to have or know where a guy could get a duck blind patterned replacement stock and fore end for a Winchester SX2? Thanks all you fellow shot slingers!!!
I've never seen one. You might try Winchester direct but I'd bet it'll cost you.

Why not camo it yourself? Cabelas sells a four color cammo paint kit with a stencil for $19.00 with good directions. I used one on an old Winchester 1200 including the metal about six or seven years ago that turned out real well and has held up. I like it as well as factory cammo. It was an easy job. Make sure you get any oil or grease off first and follow the directions.
Thanks for the advice 43Shooter, can you post a pic of how your camo job turned out please?
I'll give it a try when my wife gets home from work. I'm doing good to turn the computer on.
Have any of you had any problems with your fore ends being mushy and not fitting tight on the end that meets up with the receiver? After further inspection of this gun, I found that to be the case. The SX2 is still at the store and marked down to $459.00. I want to pull the trigger but am afraid that issue will bug the crap out of me!!
