I'm considering buying the Beretta A400 Xplor Action in 20 gauge for a walking Pheasant gun.

I don;t like the look of the KO system and am not sure if it is needed for what I will be using the shotgun for.

Does anyone have this gun and an opinion on if the KO system is needed or not?

Thanks in advance.

It's not in a 20 IMO. I have this shotgun in 12 ga. and even at the light weight of ~ 7 lbs, It doesn't make a noticeable difference until one goes up the the 3 1/2 inchers.

The 20 should make a nice pheasant gun. Nothing against the Beretta but the Benelli Monty is lighter, less expensive, and a very good gun also. Plus in my view being an inertia driven action as opposed to a gas driven one, it's simpler in design (thus the weight savings) and a easier take-down.

But the A400s are nice too
I have an extrema2 without the KO, and i've shot them with them. For what little percieved recoul reduction it had, I'll take mine without the KO simply because it seemed to handle better
Thanks for the comments.

I have always been partial to benelli's too, but something about this little gun has grabbed me.

Even more surprising is I typically only like traditional looking weapons, which this one is not.
So, did you go with the KO? I have an A400 waiting for me in Oregon but do not know if it is KO equipped ( present). Will be driving down next week and am anxious to handle it and hit the hills for Chukar.
Funny, I am debating the exact same question. I have a Benelli Monty 20 ga and like it but like the way the Beretta feels in my hands better.
Beretta's web site says the non-KO weighs in at 5 lbs (a little hard for me to believe) and I called them to get the weight on the KO (as I could not find it), and was told it was 5.7 lbs.

I am looking at the 20 ga with the 26" barrel but plan on trying to get my hands on one and weighing it before I plunk down the cash.

I have an extrema 2 with KO and can tell the difference with heavy target loads when shooting a lot.

Would love to hear what others have to say on this.
I have the A400 20 with a 28" barrel without the kickoff. I don't think the kickoff is needed. The gun is a very soft shooter. The gun is great for pheasants and very light to carry in the field. I have the kickoff on an Extrema 2 12 gauge and it is very nice on that gun.
Still in Canada headed south, but did find out my A400 has the KO. At 14.25 LOP I will be looking to shorten it a bit, which may be interesting, but I will find a way.
