I picked up a nice little browning 20g a SxS. Its got 28" barrels. Feels really nice, I can't wait to shoot it. Its got a little wear but not bad. My hope is to refurb it this winter. I'd like to refinish the stock and get an deeper satin look, fix some screw heads that are showing work, and put a sims limbsaver pad on it. The two marks shown are the only marks on the stock...

Just looking for someone with some experience on this shotgun. Maybe some pics of working guns (show pieces too)
Thanks

Very nice. I dont think that is a factory pad, dont think the 20's came with anything but a plastic butt plate. I have always liked the BSS's.

for $500 i couldn't pass it up..
I will give you $600 for it. That's a 20% profit.

No doubt! Even $600 would be a steal on that shotgun!

thanks for the offer smile
Yeah around here a BSS 20 in that config and shape bring $1000-$1250 . what a deal
You did good I agree with Magnum Man on the price I would expect on that gun. Plus they are just really nice guns
Nice looking 20 ga side by side. That's what I prefer.

And with a straight grip like yours!

Smokin deal!! Love me some BSS

I think you are correct. I have installed a couple for folks looking to extend LOP. A friend is looking for exactly this sort of light quail gun and I told him he could forget finding a BSS for less than 800...
The same gun is/was for sale on trapshooters.com for 1850........

Sounds like I did alright on it then. I think it'll be a fun one. With the 28"barrels I think it'll wack a rooster too.

Now this one is a made in Korea with Jap parts if that affect value much. That said, fit an finish its excellent.
They were all made in Japan..

Says right on the barrel "assembled in Korea with Japanese parts"

Edit: my bad, it was Korea

Refurb???? Looks good enough to me. Nice score !!!!
Yes, Some of the later ones were assembled in Korea. You got one heck of a deal! Hard to find for under $1000! Very nice handling gun, and great shooters. Don't know that I would refinish it though.

You did get a helluva deal! I owned two of them years ago; first one was a very early version without the barrel selector switch, the second had the switch in the trigger-guard. Sorry, no pictures; IMO the best gun in it's price category for the times (I liked them a little better than the Ithaca/SKB guns). Mine were chambered in 20 gauge, both Japanese made/assembled - great shotguns, should have kept one of them!

I don't think being Korean made is any detriment. Fit and finis is outstanding and browning quality control was probably all over it back then. I think it's 80's vintage having trouble dating it.

I think you are absolutely right about that - I looked up the BSS in my latest Blue Book - it doesn't even make mention of Korean assembly - thus no difference in value. The BSS shotguns, in all variations, were made from 1971 - 1988.
Here is the page on the Browning website to date the BSS...

And here is the page to select other models in case the route back is not obvious.

The 28" barrels, 20ga, and English (straight) grip would bring that gun well over the amounts given. I'd bet it wouldn't last 1t $1,600-$1,800.

I would think that is a possibility. I have yet to run across that combination.
I'd hesitate to referb it. Hunt for the correct plastic button plate and enjoy the next best thing to a m21.
This is the plate. I don't have a bottom view, but it says browning [Linked Image]
