What's your slug of choice for hunting whitetail with a 20ga smooth bore?

Thanks
Jim
Winchesters. They are more accurate than the Remingtons in my two smoothbore 20 gauges.

Smoothbore shotguns tend to be pretty load specific. They may shoot terrible with one and very well with another. Unless you like your initial results I would recommend you try a couple at least before you stock up.

When I shoot up what I have i will be trying some Federal Tru-Ball loads.

Thanks for the reply. I had found the same about the Winchester Foster type slug. It has been close to fifteen years since I have put a slug down the barrel of a shotgun and am wondering if slug and powder technology had changed enough to effect preferences.

Your statement, "Smoothbore shotguns tend to be pretty load specific" also parallels my experiences but I'm wondering if there might be other slugs in addition to the established leaders that I should also be trying.

Thanks
Jim
I don't see much new technology being applied to smoothbore slugs.

If I was looking for something different I would try Tru-Balls. Hornady makes them now and I like Brennekes in a 12 gauge so I would probably like them in 20 ga.
I will second Dancing Bear's advise I have shot Brennekes out of a smooth bore with a single bead as a sight and put all my shots in a inch or two group at 50 yards. I have heard many good things about Tru-Ball slugs which would be worth checking out.
