I have been offered what I THINK is a good deal on an older Red Label but don't have any experience with them. Blued receiver, 12 gauge, 28" barrels, choke tubes... It has had less than two boxes of shells put through it according to the current owner. Based on the blued receiver, it has to be a good 30 years old if memory serves correct, and it looks like it is brand new. The wood is nice dark, rich color and is flawless. This girl has been a safe queen..
Like I said, I have no experience with them though.
Are thry good shotguns? It would be a hunting gun and used for an occaissional round of skeet and trap... Thoughts... Opinions...
I don't think you can go wrong with a Ruger. I'm very fond of their O/U's-have owned 7 (mostly in 20ga) and now have an older fixed choked skeet & skeet and a 28ga with choke tubes. Ruger makes a very fine shotgun and they are a great value for the money. Perfect for hunting and for clays.
I didn`t think the older blued receiver Red Labels came with choke tubes.
After market tubes maybe??
That's what I thought too.
This one has factory chokes and the current owner swears it has never bedn back for a barrel change
According to the Blue Book, choke tubes became optional in 1988 standard in 1990.
Stainless steel frame became standard on the 12 ga. in 1985.
Here`s a link to Ruger product history.
You can age your Ruger by the serial #.

I`ve yet to shoot it
A friend has a 20 ga and I will say. I like it a lot. Enjoy.
I have a 12 gauge with choke tubes and blued receiver. It was used but came with the box. I don't shoot it but I believe the box stated it came with choke tubes. I guess I will have to dig it out and check it out.
I have a 20 Imp/Mod I bought when they first appeared on the scene for quail and teal shooting. It's an excellent shotgun no problems of any kind in all these years.I highly recommend them..
