Posted By: rush1 Which scope for FN slug gun?o - 11/04/16
I have a FN SLP MK1 with a rifled barrel. The factory open sights will not adjust low enough to even consider using them so I've decided to put a scope on it. I had pretty much made my mind up on buying a simmons prohunter prodiamond 4x32, but today I looked at a leupold 1-4x20 with the pig plex. I liked it a lot. I know leupold is superior (I own several), but I will only be using this gun to hunt hogs after deer season. Is it worth spending the extra money or will the simmons shotgun be sufficient? This is my first slug gun, so I don't have a lot of experience with them. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
I have had that same Simmons on a 12g slug gun for years and it's always been good to go.

I have a Leupold Vari - X II 3-9x on another that works fine, but I have never loved it because the glass is so yellow.
You've posted the exact question I was thinking about, so I'll be anxiously waiting. Also, I'm wondering if these shotgun ballistic reticles are helpful, accurate, or just junk in the sight picture?
I know the simmons will "work" but I really love the ability to use the 1x. Not to mention the lifetime warranty of the leupold. Most of the hogs I'll be shooting will probably be on the move.
As I said... I own several leupold already. They are on guns I use regularly. This particular gun will not get used much. I'm just trying to find out if it's justifiable to spend the extra on the leupold or if I should settle for the simmons.
