always wanted one, are there any fans here? I like older guns, I might have one newer than 70's but just like the fit, feel and soundness of the older American made guns.

31s are great shotguns, the nicer ones are starting to bring a premium price. I'm with you on the older guns old 870s and Winchester model 12s are my thing.

i grew up shooting a 31L in 20 gauge. ended up getting traded of sold out of family. only shotgun i used for pry 8-10 years. absolutely loved it. just picked up another as a gift to my self within the last month from a friend on here.

Have Benelli's, Browning and Remington autos, half a dozen higher end o/u's but i have shot that 31 more in the last month than the rest in the last year combined. just makes me happy and brings back good memories. pushing 2k rounds in last month. at the ripe old age of 31 the old stuff just appeals to me for the craftsmanship and the fit and finish of the arms.

Not sure where you are in Va but Dominion in Fishersville had a 12 ga 31 a while back. I don't recall the price though.

I am in tidewater, thanks for the tip though. I have one saved on Gunbroker but they always seem to go for $100 more than I got...

My son restocked a 20 when he was 10. He used some fancy maple and his wife now shoots it quite a bit. Tubed it so he can shoot steel. I found a 16 on here last year and gave it to him.

The 31 is a lot of shotgun for the money.

I learned to hunt using a Model 17, managed to snag one with a 4 digit S/N a year or so ago. Neat old guns.

Still have the top and bottom ones, middle one is a factory Cutts solid rib barrel. I had a Skeet gun that was too ugly for the picture as well. Bottom gun has a three digit SN; I've had the wood refinished. Pic at bottom.

I have been looking for a 16 as well, local shop has a 12 ga trap gun with fancy walnut stock and a simmons rib. very tempted. Funny you mention the 17 as he has one there that would be a fun shooter/resto project. had never seen or even heard of such a beast. very tempted. if it still there after the trip to the guld end of month it be finding a new home. big 20 gauge fan. only one i enjoy shooting more is my 1924 sweet 16. just screams legit in the pheasant fields around here.

When we were in Az. saw some 31's.. None had a solid rib.. I am mainly a 12 bore fan.. Too late in life to fool with a 16 ga.. Have a very nice 31 12 with a solid rib.. Makes a super sage grouse gun.. I might spring for a 20 or 12ga. trap model.. I like older shotguns also.. My most used gun is an old 870 that I put a newer barrel on with chokes.. My collection of older guns are most 30 " 12 ga. full chokes, but that was the gun of the day.. Just picked up a nice model 12 12 gs. with a solid rib.. Can't wait to try it on crows, chukars or ducks.. Have a good one and enjoy those old pumps..

Man, I would love to get a hold of an A5 in 16 or 20 ga. they are still a little heavy for me as I age, but just listening to the sound when they cycle is amazing. I like the old Model 17's, Browning patent for the bottom ejection is neat. they were made with quite a drop at heel, like a lot of those 20's and 30's guns, but I can carry the thing all day!

I had a model 12 in 16ga for a while but let it go to a friend, it was a pieced together gun that I had to spend another $150 on to get it to eject fired shells, but a nice old "short-chambered" gun. Still got most of a case of 2 1/2" shells I got from RST for that gun.

Where are you in Tidewater VA. If you want to get rid of the shells I'm in the area for a day or two on a hunting trip. Thanks

I have two. 1949 12 gauge Factory Vent Rib and Cutts Compensator skeet model. I shoot the gun as well as my over and under sporting clays shotguns. Very smooth action, Rufus G was kind enough to help me correct a feeding problem with the shell lifter. I also have a 1946 16 gauge bird gun, factory modified barrel and a factory skeet barrel with a cutts compensator. Those Cutts really work, pattern great and provide a noticeable reduction in recoil with a noticeable increase in noise. I like them for Skeet shooting. Fine gun with the famous ball bearing action. Very smooth. Almost shuck themselves with a little rearward pressure on the forearm when you fire.
