Finally got the scope today and gotta say Im impressed so far. Optics are very clear w/o any distortion that I noticed. Granted it's a long scope compared to say a Leupold and the ocular housing is large but neither was a problem.

Mounted it on a new/old Ruger 44 Mag Carbine that was left to me,unfired. Probably is twenty years old but is minty. Shot perhaps 50 rounds just playing w/ the gun and scope and the tracking checked out fine. Self shuckers are known to be rough on scopes because of the herky jerky recoil motions.

Towards dusk, I checked it against a VX-III 4.5x14x50 that was handy and it came thru w/ a good showing for itself.

Can't really find any fault w/ this entry level scope. I can see myself buying a couple to mount on loaner guns and maybe a truck gun or three...

If these scopes hold up, they will do very well indeed!

Gonna let my son-in-law hunt with it this Saturday (Opening day of deer season). If it survives that test, I know it will last a long time...

Also got a free ball cap when I opened the package. Doug is a class act....
Oh, I did notice the objective lens did have two very small rub marks, not really scratches but probably just sloppy handling by the QC techs or whoever. I'm betting that was an anomaly...
BTW, I really like the Penta-Plex Reticle. Bold main posts with a fine upside down Christmas Tree Reticle. Will play with it and see where those big 44 mag JHP's land at extended range...
Keep us posted on how the Pentax is doing...I'm seriously considering one of these scopes for a pending project.

HBB,

This one ain't mine, just testing and sending it on. Will keep it a few more days though and don't expect any surprizes.

I'm considering ordering a couple for myself and doing a long term test-say a 10-15 year durability test....

Where is the scope manufactured?
The Gameseeker line is made in a Pentax factory in China.
james, you wanna compare it to the nikon 6x42?
saturday's all used up. probably sunday, too ...

Sure, that would be great though I don't want to keep it too long. Gotta E-Mail Doug and see where to send it next....
Shot it today at my 100 yd range. I'm really digging the PP Reticle. Shot approx 50 more 44 mag rounds thru the little Ruger Carbine. It do make an impression on the targets...

I'm satisfied it's a fine scope if it holds up long term. I'm just gonna have to order one myself and see. I'm thinking a 4x16x50 though the 2.5x10x56 does call me hither with a promise of low light Wild Boar forays in South Ga...
James,
I have e-mailed you Blairs shipping info to forward the scope to him.
Thanks for doing the review. As I stated earlier, if this works out to be something the members feel is worthwhile we will make 24hourcampfire member reviews a regular thing.

Blair, the scope is coming to you next. When you are completed reviewing it please contact me and I will give you Utah708's info to send it out.

Anybody else interested that has not contacted me please PM your info to me so you too can get invloved with this review and more involved in your forum.
Doug,

Will do.

Thanks again for letting me test this scope.

You're a class act...
Arrived today. I was hoping to catch it before thanksgiving so I could do some side by side comparisons in the field on the last weekend of North Dakota deer season. Not a big deal, the range sure gets quiet around here come December ... plus sure don't have to stay up late to compare low light performance either ...

James is right, this baby is long. Not ridiculously long, but first impression on the Mark I Eyeball is that this thing belongs on a long action rifle.

Fortunately the test subject is Big Drift's Stevens 200 25-06 ... IMHO a natural fit for a budget (hopefully bargain) 6x42 scope.

BD will be bore sighting tonight and we'll be making a range trip this weekend to make HTH comparisons with the 6x42 SII and some other less exactly comparable units.

Stay tuned ...
I apprecate you taking the time to do a test/review as I am sure the members here do.
Please let me know when you are ready and I will PM you with the info on the next in line to test.

Anyone interested in getting involved, please contact me
i can compare it to a 6x42 nikon monarch ...
Wow, It took USPS awhile to get it there. I guess the Thanksgiving Holiday backed up the mail...Look forward to your opinions as well.

I was impressed enough to order a Pentax but Doug is saying the middle of Dec before he gets his shipment. Plan on doing a long term test...
If Rick would allow, could this thread get stickied so that it's easier to find. Looking forward to the reviews. I think one of these would ROCK on my 10-22
Sounds good to me.

I'm waiting on Doug to send me a few Pentax Scopes ( He's waiting on his shipment) for a long term test. The optics are first rate. The only question I have is long term reliability. Only one way to find out...

To Utah708,
Steve,
I am sending a scope out to you today to check out, test & post a review on. Please let me know when you are done and I will get you the info on the person to send it on to. Again, thank you for taking the time to get involved.
OK, Am Number 2 on the list ...

Mounted it in Weaver rings on Big Drift's Savage 200 25-06. Figured this scope belongs in a solid no-frills package. After all, folks are not going to be inclined to put a $90 scope on a $1K Kimber & Tally's set up.

It looks good. Glass is nice. Eye relief is acceptable at 3.1" or so. So far so good. So good that I sent Doug a cc# and bought it without a range trip. (Why take it out of the rings and send it on its way when you're going to buy one anyway). Besides, if it doesn't work, Doug'll make it good.

No risk deal.

Have had the scope out for twilight tests. Inconclusive results so far. Not bad at all. Will feel more comfortable commenting after more field work.

The reticle is a bit of a mystery. The packaging came without documentation or explanation as to the nominal pre sets on the PP reticle. It is an inverse christmas tree design ... basically the opposite of the B&C reticle. I am guessing that the length of the sub hairs are supposed to correspond with the body length of a WT deer at certain ranges considering the 6x magnification. But that is pure conjecture. There is no documentation on the Pentax website regarding the reticle.

Doug is doing his best to get documentation so I can further evaluate.

Liked it enough on first impression to buy it.

More to follow ...

GE
Any news on deciphering the reticle?
thanks
Its explained on the Burris webpage. I tried it with a 6.5x55 and found it to be close enough for large game out to 350 yds or so. Beyond that that range the round was too far off the pre determined trajectory. My Swede loads are a bit on the slow side.
Why did the Burris site have info about the Gameseeker "upside down Christmas tree". Is there a link between Burris and Pentax?

thanks,

stumpy
Some kind of deal, Burris oversees manufacturing or the same owner or something like that.

The charts on the Burris site work fine with the PentaPlex reticle.
