Purchasing a carbine 7600 for my Northeast hunts. Hunting mostly woods, with a few clear cuts mixed in. What would you pick for a scope or sights?

1) Williams Peep
2) 3x9 scope
3) 2x7 scope
4) fixed 4x

I was thinking of getting a Bushnell 4200 (would love to have the Rainguard) in 3x9, but was thinking this might be too much scope. Any thoughts?

Leupold 2.5 Ultralight, heavy duplex: https://www.24hourcampfire.com/cata...;osCsid=8435cdb597e16cd01e5a427cbfb3b04a

I could easily do one of the new K4's. I have two K6's and really like them.

Like BMT said, the Leupold 2.5x or the old M8 3x.
Any of the fixed scopes.

What cartridge is it chambered for?

I have a Leupold 2.5-8 on my 760 and it's just fine. If I had to do it all over again, I'd get a fixed 4x or 2-7.

I have a Leupold 6X42 w/Premier Reticle on my 7600 in 35 Whelen. Great low light woods rifle combo.
Elite 3200 1.5x4.5 . They have enough eye relief, are long enough for a 7600 if you want to put a lens cover on the objective, and have the Rain Guard and the fire fly reticle. I had a vxII 1x4 on my 7600 and replaced it with a used Nikon Monarch 2x7. The 1x4 is short and the Butler Creek objective lens cover was too far back to be handy to flip open. If I had bought a new scope it would have been the 3200 1.5x4.5 or a fixed 4x with a heavy duplex reticle or post & duplex reticle.

I'm setting up my 760 w/ a peep sight. That's because I'll be using it in really heavy cover a long way from where I'll be parking. Don't want the weight of a scope.
But, if I knew I'd be using it over 50-75 yds., it would get a 4X Leupold. Their huge eye box makes them both fast and easy to acquire a target in a hurry. E

I was thinking of getting a Bushnell 4200 (would love to have the Rainguard) in 3x9, but was thinking this might be too much scope. Any thoughts? [/quote..................The carbine version of the 7600 is just over 39" in AOL with an 18" or so long barrel. Of the four you list, the 3x9 scope size and its 3x9 magnification imo, is too much for your intended hunting purpose. A 2x7 or a fixed 4x would be better.

But I happen to think that on that particular 7600 carbine rifle, a lower powered straight tubed variable scope (1-4x20 or a 1.5-5x20) without an objective bell, would be the best; lighter, more compact, with a lower profile, and will look better in porportion to that rifle. Imo, they offer better all-around magnification versatility on the low end with wider FOVs for those quick, both eyes open closer ranged brush and timber shots and extra magnification on the high end for deer sized animals out to 300-500 yards in open areas if needed as well.

Happen to have a little compact bolt Ruger carbine myself with a 1.5-5x20 VX111 mounted on it. A great scope
for the woods and for some longer ranged more precision shooting. Looks great in porportion to the rifle.

If I were to get a 7600, a 1-4x20 or 1.5-5x20 would be my top picks, followed by the 2x7 and then the fixed 4x. Out of the four however, a 3x9 even though do-able, would be a last resort.
I would give a serious look at a Leupold 1.5-5X 30mm scope.

Excellent glass, good low light performance, looks darn good on the rifle, has good eye relief.

Most of the time I bet ya don't crank the scope up much over 2X

I have a 3-9x40 Tasco world class tv view on my 760 .308 and its done me very well for 17 years. Never once changed the set up. I have killed deer from 25 yards to 517 yards out.
When my Tasco finally junks out is when my .308 will be put into retirement.

I think a 3x9 would be a nice scope for what you are looking to do.

None of the above, and I've used all of the above (except the fixed 4) on 760/7600s from .223 to 35 Whelen.

The best scope I've found for your type hunting, and mine is the Leupold 1.5x5

I've used my 7600 for years here in northern Maine. Started out with open sights and used them up until 3 years ago. I've tried a VXII 2x7 (which is my favorite scope) but settled on a VXII 1x4x20.
Ditto--Super Cub

I have a few 760's and 7600's. Some have 1-4X Vari-X II's some have 1.5-5X Vari-X III's, one has a 2-7X Vari-X II, another has a 2.5-8X Vari-X III, and one has a straight 4X HD.

I have yet to shoot anything other than paper with any of the variables set above 3X.

BTW. None of them have "see through" mounts BUT some wear the old Weaver pivot mounts(my favorite). AND yes, I have used the pivot feature and the irons on several close encounters. grin
I am a big fan of the 2x7x33mm VX I leupold. It has a nice field of view, is light, and the 7X is nice if you have to reach out and touch something. I keep it on 2X in close cover. Just my opinion. Good luck.
I have a straight 4 power leupold on mine.

On my 30-06 760 I put a 1.5-6x42 Zeiss Diavari. On my 7600 .243 I have a 1-4x20 VXII Leupie. Both guns are extremely accurate and I love the scope on each and I wouldn't change anything. On my .308 760 I never mounted a scope and that was right for that gun.

I would lean more to the hign end glass. When it's time to pull the trigger it's time for the glass to earn it's keep and I have never regretted the money I put into the glass. I have several of them, nothing compares for speed and light gathering. Nothing.

There was a low power variable Trijicon Accupoint in the Classifieds last week, for a pretty good deal. I have a 3-9 that has served me very well for the last few years. The triangle reticle takes a little time to get used to, but it might be worth a look...

I like the redfield widefield on my 7600.
I only deer hunt in the Adriondacks and use a carbine 7600 with Bushnell Elite 3200 2-7. From 15 feet to 300 yards this combo has never failed me, no matter what the conditions.
I am looking at purchasing a 7600 308 "QWAC" for woods hunting back east, my scope will be VXIII 1.5-5x24. really like the same scope on my BLR 358 would not need anymore out to 250+

I several 7600's. My 35 Whelen and 300 Savage wear Leupold 1-4x20's. My 257 Roberts wears a 1.5-4.5 Nikon Monarch. My 35 Remington carbine wears a Trijicon Accupoint 1.25-4. Also, my great-uncle has been shooting a 700 BDL 7mm Rem Mag that wears a Leupold 1.5-5x20, which has been on it for as long as I can remember and he has been everywhere with that rifle. The low power scopes are perfect choices for the 7600's, and they really shine on the carbines! I have yet to be sorry for using low power scopes.

I've had a Model 6 in 30-06 for a lot of years. It started out with a Swarovski 1.5x6x42 with a 4a reticle on it for bear hunting in Canada. It also has had a 1.5x5 Leupold with the German 4 reticle. Now it wears a 3X Leupold. Any one of those scopes work very well for woods hunting or shooting across clear cuts.

Here's an older 4X Redfield on my 7600 in 284 Winchester. It has been on a couple of 760/7600 carbines as well. Good old scopes and tough as nails.Just the ticket for woods as well as fields.Easy to find on the used market for well under a C note.

I have two others in the Widefield version in 4X & 6X. Another option would be the new Weavers without going to the expense of the Grand Slam.

BTW, I love Leupies and have a few as well but these old scopes just keep on tickin'.

I've made a decision and will get a Leupold VX-3. What would be your preferred reticle....German #4, Heavy Duplex or Duplex?
Posted By: Eremicus Re: Scope for Remington 7600 - 09/04/09
I'd prefer the Heavy Duplex over the others. It picks up faster and can be picked up in dimmer light than the Medium Duplex. It has the advantage of being useful to range deer and other animals that the 4a can't do. E

I have to concur with JB here as well and going with a VX2 or the new VX3 would be a much wiser choice. Either the HD or German #4 would be best for low light hunting.
