I'm looking to put one of these 2 scopes on my 22-250Rem. But I need some questions answered from men that own or have experience with these scopes

What is the eye-box like(any tunnel vision). Parallax Issues, eye critical, or any other negatives?

Cheers & thanks again smile

Eye box not as forgiving as other VX3s; mine is a VXIII, don't think this has changed. No issues with critical eye relief (at least I've not noticed it).

Mine is on a .264, a dedicated antelope rifle, with B&C. I like it alot. Some here will tell you that a 3.5x10 is better, because of more latitude in the eye box. I've had both, and for my purposes, the 4.5x14 is better.

Just added the 50mm version.

I've got a VXIII 4.5-14x40 B&C reticle as well. To me the eye relief is much more critical than the 3.5-10 or the 2.5-8. I also have a 4.5-14x40 LR side focus on my 22-250. I like both scopes, but the eye relief, IMHO, is more critical. It's not terrible, but I'm considering making a change to something different.

I just yesterday recieved a Minox ZA-5 2-10x40 from Doug at Cameraland. So far I am really impressed. the eye relief is long and very NON-critical, and it's constant. I've yet to shoot it of course, but first impressions are very positive.

I have a VX-III 4.5-14x40 on my Vanguard .300 WM. Never had a problem with eye relief (meaning no "dope ring" so far...)

However, to anyone buying one I sure would recommend making sure it has parallax adjustment. I find beyond about 12x things don't appear all that sharp.

FWIW.

David, how thick(thicker or thinner) are the 'Mino-Plex' outer & inner cross-hair bars, compared to a VX3 Leupold?
I do not want to go any thicker than this. Although the Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44 does look sweet from the reviews/pic's.
If the Zeiss 14 has the same duplex size/style??? as my 2.5-8x32 & 3-9x40 Conquests, that would be OK wink

I like the look of the 3-15x42(without side focus)!
I like Leupold scopes! However, make sure that 50mm lense is not going to cause you a problem touching the barrel.

I recently took friends (4 of them) of mine with me to to Cabela's and Bass Pro to look at rifle scopes and guns etc.

I wanted their opinion and the use of their eyes in telling me what was going to be best for my varmint/predator rifles in the way of a higher power variable scope.

Only one person said that the Leupold seemed better to his eyes looking out side in the daylight hours, not just inside the store. So between the Leupold VX-2 and the Busnnell 3200 series tactical scope, I came away with 4 of those Bushnell rifle scopes and mounted one on the model 12 Savage 22-250.

I saved over $270 dollars going the route of the Bushnell verses the Leupold model which was over $650 dollars.

We also compared the Leuopold VX-3 to the Bushnell 4200 series and a Nikon Monarch scope in 3 x 9 power. The Nikon was brighter of the 3 and the other two were a toss up.

340,

I haven't compared the two yet. I'm about to leave my office and head back home. I'll take a look at the two and report back. If I can, I'll get a pic and post them.

That would be great, thanks Dave wink

I have the VX-3 30mm 4.5-14x50LR with B&C reticle on a .243W. To me there is what I call 'tunnel vision' with the sight picture appearing to be at the end of the tube.

For a Leupold it has all the features I want in a LR/Varmint scope but they really need to upgrade their lenses and coatings to provide value compared to the Conquests.

340,

Just got a chance to compare the two.

VXIII 4.5-14x40 B&C reticle
ZA-5 2-10x40 plex reticle

I set the Minox to approximately 4.5x to be comparable to the Leupold on low power.

I'd say the Minox plex is a touch heavier on the outer heavy lines, and about the same on the thinner interior portions. I was looking at a white background at about 35 feet, in the house, just to compare the reticle thickness. The thing I noticed most was that the Minox reticle was really nice and black, no fade or whatever you want to call it. The Leupold reticle had a sort greyish/tanish look to it, I assume sort of fade under direct overhead lighting and the white background. I had never noticed it in a Leupold before, but I wasn't looking.

This Leupold 1" scope is on my 300 Wby. Earlier this afternoon I had my 22-250 with a VXIII 4.5-14x40 LR with fine duplex. I'll say that the eye relief/eye box seems to be less critical on the 30mm tube version. It also has side focus and makes the higher power settings work alot better. My 300 Roy may just get a Minox. If nothing else the extra eye relief would be great with the heavier recoil.

Hope that helps.

Very true, I've noticed the same thing.

What focusing procedures did you use ? E

Per the Leupold manual as with all my Leupolds.

I don't really think my VX3 4.5-14x40 LR is a whole lot different than the other two III's I have, both 40mm with Adjustable Objective. I haven't had it anyplace other than the range though, hopefully this year I'll get an Antelope tag..

They are quite a bit different than my 3.5-10's, but I can't say I really have any complaints or felt either handi-capped me in anyway and I like the power range.

I'm also very happy some of you buy new scopes and sell them off to us folks with pocket books not so deep.

The new VX IIIi are nice

I have the VX IIIi in 40 and 50. Most are 40mm. Some have 30mm tubes. I don't see that much difference. If you can afford a few more bucks, get the 50mm. If you cant, the 1" tube 40mm scopes are great. Great deal for the price.
