Hearing you guys say the plex on the Swaros are too thin. I'm about to buy a Swaro Z5 with plex & BT and just wondered how the ret compares to the Leupie FD. I like the FD, but wouldn't really care to go thinner on a gun that will be used for hunting.

I couldn't find subtensions on the Swaro site, anyone have the figures compared to the Leupie FD on a given X.

Always been a fan of fairly thin duplexes on hunting rigs. My fav rets for hunting are the Zeiss #20 or the Leup WD, but I've been served well by the FD as well, just don't want to go thinner for low light situations.

Ronny, the plex reticle is super fine. You & I both hunt alot, and trust me...your not gonna like it for hunting.

4a-7a or BRH is your hunting reticles.

You almost have me talked into the BRH Stoney, but I've just never been a fan of busy reticles despite owning several. The MD or Burris style BP are my favs on a hunting rig. I wish they offered more than the plex with the BT option.

The BRH replaced TDS reticle. I consider Rapid Z's & Nikon BDC busy, not the BRH.

7RM - here in LA, I'd NEVER use an FD, duplex has worked pretty well, but love the #4 and in DENSE woods the HD is great, ESP. in low light. A #1 is not even bad, and I agree the #20 is very good also.

If you are hunting fields or pipelines I can see a thinner reticle being used, BUT - I am guessing you are hunting out of state?

65BR, yes, it will be used for wide open out of state type hunts mostly with occasional use here on long gas ROWs. I really don't mind the Leup FD for hunting in similar situations. My last couple FD kills were on a WY lope and an 8pt on a gas ROW here at home. I actually shot that 8 at dark30 and didn't find the ret that bothersome, but hunting in cover is a whole diff story. I'll take a #20 in cover or sub200 areas. Not a big fan of HD at all, but don't knock anyone for loving them.

At dark, being in the open/ROW gets a tad more ambient light in your scope to work, but in the woods, not so much.

The HD would be a decent choice for WOODS only for me. Though they are thinner on higher powered scopes, which is not what I commonly use for my hunting.

I think reticle choice is no doubt subjective, some like say a B&C, and others find it distracting. I actually did some very good shooting/killing a few years back using a 4200 w/Mil Dot, b/c it's what I had on a 6BR. It stood out SURPRISINGLY well at VERY low light levels, had a contrast to it w/the dots and the bold outer posts, yet VERY usable in all conditions. Surprised it's not more common, but with so many choices...what is other than a 'plex' style.

I really like the MD ret on my 6500. Wouldn't bother me to run it on all my scopes to tell the truth.

Why not look at the Zeiss Victory Diavari?

I just sent a 14x44 to Zeiss for elevation Turret. That's not a bad route Ronny for under $800.00 inc Turret switch.

Yeah, I love the 4.5-14x44 Conquest. Have 3 and one is still sitting in the box waiting for a rifle. Planning to build a 6.5 of some sort, it just can't sit in that box too much longer My personal preference for the 25-06 project is at least 12-14x on the high end and 4x on the low end with a weight that is less than 18. That conquest would work just fine, but looking for options. My weight goal throws the Z6 and Diavari out. I've been hearing the glass on the z3 and z5 is the same as the z6, just a little less performance from the 1" tube. I've also heard rumor that the z3 has the leaf spring set-up that is the same as the AV line had, where the z5 and z6 has the coil spring system. That sort of makes me leary on the z3, but the subtensions make me lean twds it.

I really don't care to go with a SFP busy range ret, so would much rather have a plex with turret. The z3 or z5 BT would do 500yds with ease.

I did some looking on the Swaro site and found the subtensions for the z3 and z5. The 4-12x50 z3 is: Thin .6-.22, Thick 2.5-.9, Gap 7.2 at 12x. The 3.5-18x44 z5 is: Thin .2-.07, Thick .8-.29, Gap 12.9(3.5x)-4.65(18x)

With the z5 making 15.9oz, it meets my goal. OTOH the z3 is only 14.5oz.

Decisions decisions.... I was dead set on the z5 with BT/plex, but now after looking at the subtensions I just don't know. The z3 has good subtensions for a plex, not much diff than a #20. The broken AV post do make me alittle leary on the Z3.

Oh well, at least my rifle is not finished yet and waiting on glass.

Mr. Moneybags(Ronny), you want the best get the Z6 2.5-15x44(19.6oz). Has everything your asking...glass,coil spring pat,zoom, ect. You can do this!

Only 3oz more than Z5. Just urinate before the hunt to drop the 3oz.

I know what you mean. The glass is fantastic and they are built like a tank. Weigh as much. I have a 4-16 on mt sako trg, and i smile every time i look through the scope.
