For a dedicated prairie dog rifle that rides sand bags, does a Nightforce NXS bring much value to the table over a Leupold VX3 or Zeiss Conquest? I have Leupold and Zeiss scopes on two of my rifles, but don't have any experience with the NXS.

It pretty hard to beat the nightforce BR scope for what it offers at its price.

I'd get either the 5.5-22 or 8-32x in the Nightforce. Whatever I get is going to sit on top of a 6BR. I should also mention that, up to this point, I don't dial in my shots. I use varmint reticles in the Leupold and Zeiss and would probably get one of the Velocity reticles in a 5.5-22x NXS. I really wish the Velocity reticles were offered in the 8-32x, but that isn't an option.

I know that NF has a reputation for being tough, but my prairie dog rifles do not get banged around. For my specific needs, what do I gain by stepping up to the NXS?

Thanks. If I dialed in my shots, the NF would be a very easy choice. I may decide to go that route in the future, but for the most part I find that using a varmint reticle is faster and nearly as effective inside 300 yards. The bulk of that work is handled my my .204s though, so perhaps I'll decide to dial with the 6BR on longer shots.

Is NF glass that much better than VX3 glass?

Yes. I have both and the difference is obvious.

For a prairie dog rifle (or any rifle, imo), i would reconsider your reticule choice..NPR1 is how i'd roll.

i used to have a nightforce 3-15 ffp 0 stop mildot on my 204 ar that i use for prairie dogs

the nightforce was too heavy so i put it on my winchester 70 25 06

now i've got a swarovski 4-12 with the stadia lines on top of the 204

glass is sharper on the swarovski than the nightforce

today i hit a rock right at 500 yards with it so i'm happy with my present prairie dog rig

I prefer the wider hash marks for wind drift.
