I've had a ziess prf too wide cone for p-dogs. lieca works but can't see aiming point in any kind of normal light. What is a guy to do? Tried big 3 binoc rangefinders non are bright enough. Looked at leupold 1000 and vortex ranger. Both were way brighter than the others. Any other people like me. Also what is Your opinion of leupold and vortex rangefinders?
I'm in the same boat - as colorblind as they come. Over the years I have discovered the best option is to use a rangefinder with a dark black LCD readout. Both Nikon and Bushnell use LCD's and both are very useful in the field. Other brands may too, but I haven't used them. Had some luck with Leupold rangefinders - all of it bad.
Not color blind, but I have really advanced macular degeneration. My eyes are REALLY bad. I have a Leupold 1000i TBR DNA. I can range a (big) pine tree behind my house at 944 yards. It is small and light and clear to me. WHat I really like is that I can turn the brightness of the display up so it is really bold and bright.
I know that the older Leupolds had problems, but the one I am using is working well so far.
You may want to swing by a store that carries them and see if you can see that red display. You turn the brightness up by holding down a menu button then scrolling through some choices. The rangefinder has a lot of options. I just put it on True ballistic range, the one where it shows you the range to hold for after figuring out the incline. (You may want to Google the instructions so you'll know how to turn up the display when you go in.)
Good luck finding something that works.
Are you guys red/green colorblind? I am.. I had the leica 1200 rangefinder and I could see it just fine. I could not however see the swarovski rf. The problem with the leupold and vortex rf's are they dont get very good reviews..
I too am color blind.I have a Nikon Monarch Laser 800 and love it.The aiming reticle is nice and black,I don't have any problem seeing it at all.Hope this helps and good luck.
also color blind and have a nikon rifle hunter and i can see it fine but cant see through a swarovski however
I'm colorblind too, and have no problem with the Leica 1200. It is really bright so it overrides green backgrounds etc.

Thanks Guys. Just got my leica and I was afraid it is just fine to their specs. I haven't looked at the Nikons but will. I cannot use the leica. My other problem is the width of the lazer cone. I had a zeiss prf and it wouldn't range p=dog mounds on the relative flat ground that we shoot them on.
