I'm looking for a scope in the 3-15,4-16 or 5-25 range. The new conquest HD5 fits the bill price wise. SIII is also around that price. Anything else out there for about a grand I should be looking at?

I'm aware of the 16.5moa zero stop "issue" on the HD5. I can get to 1000 yards with that on my gun so not to worried about it.

I have the HD5 in 3-15 and really like it. I'm not a 1000 yard shooter but in any case, I might get a second one soon. It's a good total package for the buck. I also like their RapidZ reticles.

Viper PST is worth a look, too.

Not to side track but can the zero stop be removed? I don't have the muscle to reach 1k with 16min. Course that'll handle most all the places I get to regularly shoot. Only have one place to shoot past 700 and that's a invite deal.

i have a hd5 5-25 and love it. It tracks good and does everythimg Ive asked it to. I would definatly buy another one.

I have had great results with the Bushnell 6-24X50 Tactical's and the Viper PST's in 6-24 and 4-16. All of them hold zero and work great for dialing up. They are mounted on 7mags up to 300RUM.

For eating meat a 225 accbond at 3415fps with a 300yard zero.

I am in the sam boat as the OP. In my shopping those mentioned already were immediately at top of list. I have also on my list the Steiner Predator Extreme and I have found the Meostar 3-12x15??(cant be surebut close) for under 1K. Any negatives on them??? If they offered the Z800 in the HD5 3-15 I would be done shopping.

If you mean the RapidZ 800 reticle, then it looks like you are done shopping.

I apologize as I should have been more clear.....I want the Rapid Z 800 with Lockable Turrets in the lighter 3-15x42. You are correct that these come with both the 600 and 800 with hunting turrets. I may have to settle for that. there are worse things in life but i have had experiences lately with turrets getting moved accidently. I can get locking turrets in the larger size but what is especially attractive about the 3-15 is the weight. 15.2 oz18.4 oz as opposed to 26.6 oz for the 5-25

Edit....I must need sleep as i am not thinking clearly....The hunting turret shouldnt be exposed and if I am dialing up, it should be at such a distance that removing the cap is not an issue so I am placing my order for the HD5 3-15x42.

Edit 2 - Weight on site I originally was looking at was incorrect, Real weight on Zeiss site is 18.4 oz....

When you have a scope with turrets that are meant to be twisted why do you need a long range reticle??? Range it, twist it, bang..I shoot clear to 1600-700 yards and have no use for, Z 800, BDC, LR reticles

For $1k I'd be looking at a Cameraland Leica demo unit. The Zeiss, while good, didn't have the eye relief I really wanted.

For those of you who have the new Conquest HD 5, have you compared them to the old Conquest? Specifically, is there much difference in the glass?

To my eye, the HD5 seems to have much better glass than the 3-9x40 MC Conquests I have had.

Might want to look at the new VX-6 3-18x50. Without illumination they're around a grand. With illumination they're around $1200+ depending on reticle. The VX-6 series is IMO the best thing Leupold has come out with since the days of yesterday when they were the top dog in the states. The VX-6 isn't a Swarovski Z6 and for 1/3rd the price it wouldn't be right to expect it to rival the Swarovski. However from comparisons I've done in low light with the VX-6 2-12x and the 3-18 I've been sold on them. Plus they're a good looking scope and CDX capable. And they're lighter than a lot of comparable scopes. I've got a 2-12 on a 270 Sauer and another one on my AR15. Like the way they look and the view through them as well. Eye relief is good as well.

Another plus is their reticles are dark enough to see in low light but not so thick that they interfere with the target. Even without the illumination turned on they are easy to see in low light. And they are thin enough to shoot 1/2" groups at 100 yards.

A big +1 for the 2-12 VX6.
