Plenty has been written about using the Pentax XW line of fixed eyepieces with this spotter. I'm considering giving one of these a try. For hunting and range use, which one would you use:

10mm/39x
14mm/28x
20mm/20x
The 14mm is the best of the bunch, perfect addition for the spotter. Love the combination. Flat and sharp view right up to the edge. Very wide FOV. I feel that 28-30x is the max useable magnification with a 65mm scope in most conditions anyway. I sold of my zoom eyepiece (XF zoom) and just use the 14mm.

Because of the wide 70 degree apparent FOV its easy to find the subject in the scope even at the combinations 28x.

I use the scope hunting and on the shooting range when shooting targets at 200 yards of less.

You will need more power/bigger spotting scope at the shooting range for targets 300 yards plus.
I own both the XL-14 and the XL-10.5. The XLs are the predecessors to the XWs. The 14 is the easiest to look through by a good margin, but the 10.5 at 37x was great for sheep hunting in AK when I lived there. I used the 14 for moose.

Tough call. I'd start with 14 and see what you think.
