Any recommendations for a scope for a 17? Looking at a Nikon buckmaster 6x18-40 I know a little over kill but can get it at a decent price also here some people talk about Mueller scopes for rimfires.
I have the all blue BTV in 22 LR, I just use it for paper punching and ground squirrels if I ever get around to it. The biggest scope I have is on it, an 8x32x40 Mueller 30mm Target scope, fine crosshairs and a target dot. For me it is a great match. We were shooting chicken eggs at 100yrds off of sticks and it did a great job.

My hunting guns are in the 1.5x6 range, my take the smaller the target the bigger the scope.
If you read the reviews on Mueller they are good reviews for rimfires
How much do you want to spend and are you mostly shooting targets, hunting or a combination?
Mostly target like to keep $300 and under
i've got a nikon prostaff bdc 150 on mine. works good.

Take a good look at the Weaver V16 and V24 and the Sightron SII 4-16X42.
Looked at a Nikon prostaff 4x12-40 today it seems like a good scope for a 17
Go prostaff if you go Nikon at or under $300. They're the newest generation of Nikon scopes. The older gen Buckmasters are clear, adjust consistently and have good depth of field, but are only multicoated and the 4.5-14x and 6-18x have the "looking down a toilet paper tube" effect that optics people refer to as a small apparent field of view (probably caused by the same aperture stop that gives the good depth of field, making it easy to side focus quickly). The Prostaff rimfire EFR might also be worth looking at, though it's only a 3-9x.
The V16 is just barely in that price range on sale. Other than short eye relief, they're pretty good glass and have great adjustments (sames as used on the older Bushnell 4200 elite target models and the Clearidge scopes).
