I'm not sure why binocular manufacturers don't include a couple eyecup options with their high-end models.

Stole this idea from JGRaider.

I think he used something similar for ER issues. My problem was more of a 'fit' issue.

Ordered some SLC's from Cameraland last week and have been fooling around with them for a few days now. Great glass, very bright and clear but it took a little effort to hold them just right in order to keep a perfect view.

Ordered a set of the Swaro winged eyecups and tried those yesterday but I still wasn't 100% satisfied.

I've come to the conclusion that I have odd facial structure so rather than return the bino's I went down to the local hardware store and found a set of these.

Great glass went to absolutely perfect glass.

The bino's are now like an extension of my face and it is easily 2 or 3x easier to look through them. Zero effort to keep them still as they rest right on the bridge of my nose. Zero blackouts. Total appreciation of the 3-D like view.

The whole idea of spending money on nice bino's was to slow myself down when hunting and spend more time glassing. And of course to really stop and look at things one needs to forget they are even using binoculars. The SLC's are now like looking through my own eyes so to speak.

An $8 set of gaskets made all the difference in the world.
Good thinkin' Sam.
I will never look at a garbage disposal the same...
I have seen items priced high in one part of a store, cheaper in another part of the same store.

Thanks Richard, JG gets credit for the idea!

Shrapnel, I did not even know a garbage disposal gasket existed until yesterday.

If anyone wants a set of the Swaro winged eyecups let me know.

$35 shipped.

Only issue now is finding a new(bigger) set of lens covers.

Need some to fit over 1 7/8".
Very good SamO. I have a weird face too..... smile Now though, when you throw 'em up there, they fit perfectly, like you described. No more farting around with anything except focus. Sweet!
I wonder, while we are being cheap, if the plastic cap on a tube of gun grease is near the correct size?
JG, they are now truly excellent!

Richard, that's an idea, might be a touch too big I think?

High end optics have now taken a turn to compete with the lesser priced optics. this should help close the gap with the cheaper optics, and this could only happen in America...

I'm gonna copy JG's mount idea as well!

Of course the Swaro version is only $150.....

Later.

Sammo, the GD gaskets on the swaros have left me, uh, speechless,,,,

Nonetheless, between your "gaskets" and that custom Red Green palm swell, you need to expand your horizons......

Methinks youse the very next John M. Browning,

Fame and fortune await my friend.

Don't forget the lefty's......
SamO,

Cool idea. How do you plan to use those in rain and snow?

Jason

You should buy a bunch of the garbage disposal gaskets and rebadge them as swarovski aftermarket eyecups. You should be able to get $50 a set for them smile
sammo, You might consider the cut-out bottom of a plastic oilcan, or some-such, for a lense cover to keep the rain out. I used the bottom of a discarded gas-line antifreeze bottle on my old leupolds.......worked great, and something sim-u-lar would maybe go good with the disposal gaskets and angle-iron tripod adaptors.....

"Zero effort to keep them still as they rest right on the bridge of my nose."
I might be doing it wrong all along. I rest the eyecup up against the top part of my eye socket. Somewhere between the inter pupillary adjustment and the twist up eye cups I have always been able to find a sweet spot for comfortable viewing with a sharp sight picture.
Nice work huntsman.....somehow I'm not surprised. smile

You're jealous you didn't think of it first. You ought to see my full line of other ingenious ideas.......
Kenneth, the GD gaskets look even better in person! They actually don't look bad at all, slighty chunky but who cares.

4th Point, new covers are in order.(see H22's post)

Crow Hunter, if they were $50 Shrapnel would buy them for sure....grin

Don, that is another fine idea! I'm sure Shrapnel will be very impressed.

Pigster, I rest them on the bridge of my nose and also on the top of the eye socket. Double contact, very steady, if that makes sense.

Very subjective though I suppose, this is just what works for me.

JG, whatever works ehh?

If it only leads to the finding of one more big mule deer .....the shame and ridicule will be all worth it....laughing!

Don't forget the custom quick detach neck strap:

Get two to make a harness......

Hey, I found one of those things laying on the side of the road last week. Wasn't sure what it was but picked it up anyway.

Odd place to loose a neck strap.
'22, that oil-can invention...

You Cowboys are damn creative,

No wonder Cows and Sheep have such wide eyes, always wondering, What next?
Time was I never bought any, just harvested them, took forever to get anywhere though.
Off topic, but I'm waiting to wear out my insulated overalls to make zipper ice rod cases out of the legs.

Looks like they also work to hang your steel.

This site has some inventive folks on it.

I'm going to make a set of Don's lens covers for my Leupold Compacts. Good idea!
To all the comedians around here.....tell me you've never made sand bags out of old jeans....come on now.
I use innertubes.....
Funny you mention that. My wife is patching some jeans and making some bean bags filled with wheat right now!

LOL! Tell us about that threaded adapter.
didja notice the spotter clamp in the background? who needs a bench tripod?.....
the threaded adaptor is just a 1/4 inch bolt welded to a cut down quick-grip clamp. a ball mount from a busted swaro window mount is attached to that. spotter on top.....

[Linked Image]
This is taking a ,"Anything you can make, I can make cheaper," bent.

Carry on.
OK. carrying on, with the quick-grip clamp theme. scraps of maple, cherry and a couple clamps make a serviceable cleaning stand, too......
