I'm always a little suspect of a flourish of new products, quality is always sacrificed somewhere.

Me too Brad, but there's one thing we need to remember about Meopta. They've been the OEM for several high end binocular and spotting scopes from major, major brands. Upon coming out of expiring contracts we're starting to see alpha products wearing the Meopta badge. We'll see on this particular Meostar HD, but the other Meopta high end stuff is top shelf.

the binocular offerings look too short on eye relief again, while I will have to look and see what they are in practice I hope thats wrong. That is a problem I have with the rest of what they offer currently with the exception of the S82 spotting scope thats awesome.

cummins, did you bother to actually compare the ER specs? I just compared this new offering with the specs from the B1 Meostars, and the specs of the new Meopro HD all have longer eye relief amongst comparable configurations. The 8x42 has 22mm of ER, so can you name one other binocular of the same config that beats that?

the rest of the units have 15 or 17, all the cabelas euro models are too short for me, by just a little bit. Kinda sad because there are deals to be had on those in the bargain cave. I mostly prefer a 10x binocular as long as its full size. If I am needing a compact unit I want 8x or maybe even less.

Regarding eye relief, what manufacturer's list as eye-relief numbers is borderline irrelevant... one has to try them to truly know. How the numbers are arrived at vary mfg to mfg...

Hopefully these HD Meopros are an enormous step up from the standard Meopros, which were one of the least impressive series of binos I've looked through of late.

I've got pair of 10x42 meostar b1 and they are ausome to say the least. Could only think if the hd version was that much better

ill never get rid of my hd meostars. also own a pair of the 6.5x32 meopro and for the 200 bucks i paid for em i think theyre excellent. i can glass for long periods of time with zero eyestrain. something i couldnt do with my nikons that i paid more for

the meopro spotter looks interesting if a deal pops up i will be picking one up. still dont own a spotting scope

I've never looked through Meopta's... plan to rectify that as soon as I can find a pair. Obviously a lot on this site rave about them, but I'm so often disappointed with recommended glass that I take the ravings with a grain of salt.

We shall see...

The Meostars are pretty dang good. I'm not one to say X brand is better than the next when getting in that price range. Our eyes are all different and we all have higher/lower demands.

I'm a wee surprised that they took their "value" based MeoPro and doubled the price. I suspect they weren't getting much traction on the low end and sought a new niche in this price range. Hope the view matches the price - I do like the simple/sleek design.

I would like to try a Meopta 6x42 #4 ret scope for these OLD EYES:)

Without going back to read his review, is this something unexpected since Doug wrote up his review of the Jan. SHOT Show?

Updated: I went back and there was nothing mentioned from Meopta about a HD coming out in the Spring.
