Has anybody tried the extra lows LWs on a long action 700, and if so what scope worked (or didn't).
I'd like to run something like a 3x9x40 leupold and would like a lower mount height than the current Talley LW lows. I'm suspecting Butler caps are a non-starter with the extra lows in any case (which I could live with for hunting).
Call the good folks at Talley. They know their stuff. They have never steered me wrong and have SUPERB customer service. I've called them with similar questions and they fixed me right up and shipped me exactly what I needed on the same day and said thank you for your business like they really meant it. Good people. Good product. Give them a call.
Some more measuring shows that the power ring will hit the base portion of the ring unless I move the scope back significantly. This is assuming the base is the same dimension, which I believe it is. I suspect a fixed power leupold would fit.
Hey Pat ... I tried to get them to work on my 257R (700/LA) with a VXII 3x9 and VXIII 2.5x8. No deal. IIRC, they would work with a FXII 4x.

I bought a couple sets x-low and just use them on SAs.
File down the flat portion on the rear base until the power ring clears. Easy to do.
Thanks for the help!
+1 on what RickF said. Just take as much of that 90 degree shoulder off as it takes to clear. I checked with Talley and they said it would not affect the integrity of the base at all. I do, however try to use the finest file that will do the job so as not to open up the surface any more than necessary and invite a stress fracture.
