Don't know anything about these but have a chance to buy one NIB for $500. Are they decent scopes compared to the other Vari-X III's like the 6.5-20 or 4/5-14? I think this one is 10 years old or so?????
It doesn't appear that this one in 40MM is made anymore.
They are a decent scope, not as good as the new VX-3 but certainly as good as its contemporaries. Also depending on the rifle you are planning on putting it on it may be a bit large.

If you're planning on dialing for distance, be aware those only have 44 MOA in total adjustment to take into consideration.
I have one on a 700
VSSF I shoot 100yd BR with; they work well depending on your application. $500 is O.K. price NIB; think I paid $400 for mine, no box.

Papalondog: I actually own and use three of these WONDERFUL 8.5x25x40mm Leupold scopes.
In my lengthy experience these are THE finest colony Varminting scopes I have ever used or seen!
I have used mine for many years worth of reliable and trouble free use at the range and in the field.
