Going to be doing some scope testing and want to buy or make a chart to check resolution. Not sure I need to test for chromatic aberration unless you can convince me of the merits for a hunting scope.

Did a search and didn't find anything. What do you fellas use?

Thanks,

Jason
You can do a google for "eye charts" (the kind eye docs use) and print them out and tape to cardboard. I've used them and they work great. You can adjust viewing distance as necessary too.

You will find targets to test your scope here

I use both of these. The military chart is better for high magnification scopes like spotting scopes. The small letters in the "Can you read this?" are 1/4" tall. This is what I use the vast majority of the time. I have one at 127 yards in the open and the other 68 yards away in the woods. For low light testing I have some deer antlers 131 yards away in the woods.

Jason , I don't know where you searched , but plug in Resolution Targets and you will get enough examples to make you dizzy . You can also order them from some Companies e.g. Zeiss . I use the old 1951 Air Force Target as well as many others . You will have to pick the size Chart you need for the range you will set the Target at , and your Scope Magnification . Just play around a bit and you will determine what you need . You can blow-up or shrink the Targets you get on your Printer if you go to something like Kinkos . If you are really fussy , you can Order some high Quality Targets from various Optical Houses . The ones you will Print out on your Computer are OK and you will see differences in Scopes . Remember to compare Scopes of like Magnification . The Targets you Print out will have a fuzzy edge at high Magnification , but will do the job . You can buy Engine Rulings or Photo-Lithographic Charts ( on something like Chromium ) and they will look sharp even at 1000X but are pretty " spendy " . Have Fun !
Good info and ideas from all you dudes. Thanks! I'll post the results of the tests when they are complete.
