I recently acquired 2 older Leupold variable power scopes that "click" when I rotate the magnification collars. I am familiar with the Leupold product and actually have duplicates of these same 2 scopes that do not "click" when I change magnification. Is this normal or should I investigate further. I don't want to mount the scopes if I will need to immediately pull them back off for repair.
Thanks
Brian
Are they Vari-X III models from the mid-late eighties?
Why yes they are.
I got one like that during that time frame, and it has been working great ever since.
Thanks. They appear to be working properly but I own about a dozen or so Leupolds and these are the first ones that I have seen to exhibit this quirk.
I believe it was a short lived feature.
I've got a 3.5-10x40 with the clicks, bought it used in the early 90's. Frankly, I wish all of my 3.5-10's had the clicks.
Yep. The 3.5-10 is one and 6.5-20 is the other. Both Vari-X IIIs. Glad to hear no issues.
