I recently picked up a new ruger hawkeye 243 and am looking at either of these two scope in 2-7x33mm. They can be had for about the same price right now. Any opinions or comparisons on either scope? Other option I've been considering is just going with a fixed power weaver k4.

When it was first introduced the Revolution was somewhere between the VX-1 and VX-2 in quality. In 2012 Leupold upgraded the entire VX-line of scopes. A current production VX-1 is essentially a pre-2012 VX-2.

The Revolution is a great scope, but for a few $$$$ more the current VX-1 is slightly better. If you can justify a little more money a current VX-2 is the most scope you can buy for the money right now. In my opinion anyway.

You will have a bit of trouble getting the K4 mounted usefully on the Ruger. The eye relief ends up being too short unless you really like to crawl the stock.

Pretty much the same glass

Although I found this to be the case with the K6 version of the Weaver Classic on a LONG action Ruger M77 (and your Ruger is a shorty), I didn't have any trouble with the K4 on a long action. In fact, I just ordered another K4 to put on a Ruger M77 270 Win.

I think they are great scopes for the money. In any case, given the choice to run either the Revolution or VX1...I think it's a toss up.

Exactly right. I've had both and still have several K4s. Eye relief on the 6 is only about 3 1/16" while the K4 is 3 7/8". The K6 works well on a short action REM 700. The Weavers are excellent scopes,just wish the front bell wasn't tapered so much and was 36 vs 38mm.

+1 on the VX-2. Okefenokeeoutdoors.com has the 3-9x40 wide duplex model for $273 shipped. Don't know of a better deal or bang-for-buck on a riflescope.

Not sure if there is a difference in the available mounting length of the K6 and K4, but tried desperately to get a K6 to work on a s/a MKII Ultralight (.308) and it was a definite no-go. Most of my scope's occular end ends up between the rear of the trigger guard and the trailing edge of the tang, so I don't mount them that far back compared to most people but I just couldn't get it to work. Ended up with a VX III 2.5-8 that JUST did work.

I just checked Okeefenokeeoutdoors.com and Joe is right about some smokin' prices on Leupolds. They have VX3 2.5-8X36 matte duplex for $376.90 and the same in silver for $366.33. That is $50 or so less than Bass Pro and more than $50 less than at most all gunshops. They also have Redfield Revolutions at basically Revenge model prices. I'm going to call them tommorrow to see if possibly these are refurbished or what. About the only time I ever see Leupolds with a price break is in the form of a rebate. My experience has been that they're just not discounted. releehweoj, thanks for the tip.

Don't think you'd find the K4 at all lacking...as far as the Revolution and the current VX-1, pretty close to my eye.
