I am looking for a VX-2 3-9x40, and I know there was
some coatings changes recently on this model.
How do I tell, if looking at a used or NOS model.
Appearance, ser. #. Did they all have the wider
zoom ring ? I would prefer the newer.
Thanks.

Thanks for that link, but nothing there that refers
to my question above. Anybody else, this is a model
specific on user differences, etc. Is the newer
one better, and how about brightness, eyerelief ?
That's such a tough question.

Things change so quick these days that you're never sure exactly what you're buying.

Companies change, models change and often it's without notice. Then too......some of these things are largely (and literally) in the eye of the beholder.

I hope you get helpful answers, but you may have to just rely on going to a good retailer and looking through the scope and buying it if you like it.

Why not write them yourself.?Seems they listen.
This one is easy. Just look at the serial number on the scope.

The new scopes with the current latest updates have double-alpha numbers (i.e. "AA" and "AB" so far; this year 2015 might be up to "AC" but I'm not certain). There might have been one last crossover year with the newest coatings and "Z" numbers but I don't think so.
